Oregon Rose Bowl Uniforms: NFL Teams That Need a Nike Pro Combat Uniform Most

With Oregon unveiling some shiny new uniforms for the 2012 Rose Bowl, it brings to mind some NFL teams that could use a new look.

Reebok had a contract with the NFL that lasted for 10 years, but in April a new deal will begin for Nike to be the exclusive supplier of NFL uniforms.

When that happens, the league will be in for quite a makeover.

Nike has been making noise in the college football world for years with their ability to consistently upgrade boring jerseys.

Maybe next year the NFL will embrace some of these flashy upgrades for teams that need it.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts were not only terrible on the field, but they looked bad doing it.

The 2-14 team has some of the most boring jerseys in the NFL. There are only a couple of meaningless shoulder stripes separating them from cheap practice jerseys.

Nike should be able to add a new dimension to these pointless uniforms.

It will also help the future Andrew Luck jerseys fly off the shelves.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers reverted back to the uniforms from the 1980's a few seasons ago, and this year the team finally approached the success those teams had.

The difference is that the 2011 49ers are nothing like their historic counterparts.

From 1981 to 1994, San Francisco won five Super Bowls led by great offenses. Hall of Fame quarterbacks Joe Montana and Steve Young ran the West Coast Offense to perfection and the teams were near the top of the league in scoring every year.

This year's team is led by one of the best defenses in history, with little offense. They need a new image to represent the philosophy.

What better way to do that than with some new, possibly more intimidating uniforms?

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have tweaked their uniforms over the years, but it's time the team made a major overhaul.

After years of being the laughing stock of the league, the Lions are finally back into the postseason and ready to make some noise.

A new uniform might allow people to forget all of the hard times that came before it.

In 1998, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers changed their colors and four years later won their first Super Bowl.

Maybe the Lions can do the same.

Denver Broncos

Unlike some of the other teams on this list, I actually like the Denver Broncos' uniforms.

The orange versions that the team wore during the John Elway days had to go, and the team did well with its blue replacement.

However, the reason Denver should get new jerseys is to take advantage of huge jersey sales.

Tim Tebow had the highest selling jersey during his rookie season, but then those numbers dropped going into this season. 

This is probably because everyone who wanted a jersey already had it.

With a new style of uniform, Tebow fans will have no choice but to buy the updated version.

Buffalo Bills

The most famous part of the Nike Pro Combat uniforms is the logo on the gloves.

Every new set of uniforms includes a way to see an image when the hands are placed together during a celebration. 

Who in the NFL today enjoys celebrating more than receiver Steve Johnson?

Johnson has received numerous penalties for excessive celebration for his different antics. If the celebration is built into the uniform, he cannot get in trouble. 

That is a win for everyone involved.

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have a color in their name, and that color is not orange.

However, orange is a very prominent color in the uniforms. The entire helmet is completely this color, without a logo.

The helmets need a change to better represent the team. Either it needs to be changed to completely brown, or a symbol needs to be created to put on it.

Carolina Panthers

Since entering the league in 1995, the Carolina Panthers have made no significant changes to their uniform.

Not only is it time for a change, but the Nike Pro Combat uniforms are the best way to do it.

These uniforms are big on being shiny and flashy, and the Panthers' use of silver and blue would be a perfect fit.

With Cam Newton quickly gaining popularity, this is the time to make the switch.
