NFL Playoff Picks: Guaranteed Wild Card Losers

Gabe ZaldivarJan 2, 2012

Fans of the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions better savor the next few days because their teams are about to exit the playoffs rather quickly.

Two amazing seasons by the Lions and Broncos have to be applauded for getting these franchises back on track. Simply, the NFL is a more exciting place when these proud organizations are winning.

That is about all the good news that can be doled out for teams walking to their deaths in mere days. The Broncos take on the Steelers are are in the midst of a very serious loss of offensive prowess.

I would like the Lions' chances a whole lot more if they weren't playing the hottest team in the NFL right now. So, this is where we delve into the two Wild Card games that are easy to pick.

Lions at Saints

First, let's talk about what we like from the Lions. Their pass rush is second to none and will no doubt be the key to upsetting the Saints.

I also think the Lions will have little difficulty putting up points on the board against a Saints defense that can err on the side of lackadaisical. None of that, not one iota, will matter. Drew Brees is running an offense that is out of their minds right now.

You simply can't keep pace with how the Saints are moving the ball and they have too many weapons to account for. This game will be a high-scoring affair that New Orleans will control throughout.

Steelers at Broncos

The Steelers don't come in without their issues. They will miss Rashard Mendenhall and may be without Ryan Clark due to the high altitude. That is not what concerns me.

What I worry about is a Tim Tebow-led offense that has been stagnant for a few weeks now. Defenses have keyed in on negating Tebow's strengths by forcing him to the middle of the field, and it has led to disastrous results.

Unless the Broncos can give a crash course in pocket passing, the Broncos are doomed against a strong defense, with or without Clark.
