Super Bowl Predictions 2012: Patriots and Packers Destined to Meet in Super Bowl

Luis BatlleJun 7, 2018

It is intriguing to take note of the fact that in a league that has had a history of success being measured on a team's ability to dominate on the defensive end of the football, the tables have been turned this season.

Despite boasting two of the worst defenses in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers are the NFC's top- seed and the New England Patriots are the AFC's top seed in the 2012 playoffs.

This season the Patriots and Packers were among the two worst teams in the NFL against the pass and in total yards. Going into the postseason, the Packers allow a whopping, league-worst 411.6 yards per game, while the Patriots allow 411.1 yards for the second-worst mark in the league.

The big reason these teams have dominated this season is the simple fact that opposing teams are unable to come close to matching the type of offensive production these two teams put up.

The Green Bay Packers, 15-1 on the season, have put up big-time numbers when it comes to points scored per game.

In 11 of the 15 games the team has won this season, the Packers have scored at least 30 points. In all 15 wins the Packers were able to score at least 25 points—talk about some numbers.

Meanwhile, the 13-3 New England Patriots have easily been just as dynamic a team on the offensive end.

The Patriots have been a team red hot as of late, winning an impressive eight consecutive games to finish off the season. During the win streak, it has been the offense that has proven to be the key asset for this team, scoring at least 27 points in each of the wins.

Seven of the eight wins have featured scoring performances of at least 31 points for this Patriots team.

Both teams, with the No. 1 seed, will play at home in each of its games in the AFC and NFC playoff portions, as these are two teams that boast tough environments to play in.

The Patriots have been as sound as any team when it comes to playing at home. In Foxboro the team has gone 23-1 over the last three seasons.

The Packers are also a polished team when playing in Green Bay, going 8-0 this season and looking to take care of business there during the playoffs.

Despite the tendency of defensively sound teams dominating in the playoffs, the Patriots and Packers are expected to meet in the Super Bowl in 2012. Expect two of the more versatile, red-hot offenses in football to only continue heating up in the playoffs.
