Oregon Football Helmets: Rose Bowl Lids Would Frighten Luke Skywalker
Phil Knight does it again.
The Nike CEO always makes sure his college sports the very best equipment and the coolest jerseys in college football, and he’s off to a good start in 2012.
The Oregon Ducks are playing in the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin in the most futuristic uniform’s I’ve ever seen.
They are sporting an almost all dark green jersey that features a sleek almost black look that would make Darth Vader jealous. The wings and “O” are still on the jersey, but it looks a lot different with the all black.
The helmet takes everything to the next level.
It’s got a black liquid metal finish that allows it to have a color-changing effect. This is the first we’ve ever seen of this and let’s hope it’s a trend that’s here to stay.
I’m going out on the limb and saying this is by far the coolest piece of uniform ever. The color-changing helmets are on a whole different level. While other uniforms have certainly grabbed headlines this year, once again Oregon crushes the competition.
Nike talks about the new technology that is going into these uniforms:
"While the uniforms feature a new look for the Ducks, the most significant distinction in the 2012 Oregon Pro Combat System of Dress uniforms is the performance. The gear incorporates the new Nike Chain Maille Mesh, which is focused around increased thermoregulation and breathability, as well as lightweight protection.
"
If there were a championship for jersey’s and helmets, the Ducks would have won the title five years in a row. We are in the middle of a dynasty.
The Darth Vader dark green/black is as cool as it gets and the helmets make it the most unique uniforms of all time.
Well done, Nike.
