Trey Lance Trade Rumors: Vikings, 49ers Discussed Deal for QB at NFL Scouting Combine
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance was the subject of trade rumors on Wednesday, and now it appears that the team engaged in discussions with an NFC contender recently.
According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, the 49ers and Minnesota Vikings discussed a possible trade for Lance at the NFL Scouting Combine last month.
The Vikings are in the market for a quarterback of the future with veteran starter Kirk Cousins set to enter the final year of his contract. Minnesota could look to add a signal-caller in next week's draft, but the team owns the No. 23 pick in the first round and likely won't have a chance at any of the top prospects.

Coach Questions Beck's Personality 🤔
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday morning that San Francisco has "received inquiries from several teams looking into a potential trade" for Lance because there is a belief that Brock Purdy "is likely the future starter." He noted that the 49ers have been "fielding the calls, not making them," and he later added that "no trade is imminent."
Lance is recovering from a broken ankle suffered in Week 2 of last season, while Purdy underwent elbow surgery for a torn UCL this offseason. San Francisco faces a tough decision when both of them are fully healed, as the team invested heavily in Lance by trading three first-round picks to select him third overall in the 2021 draft. Purdy was the last pick in the 2022 draft but emerged as a reliable starter who helped lead the team to the NFC Championship.
While Lance has played in only eight games in his first two years in the NFL, his dual-threat ability makes him an intriguing talent. Florio believes "it's now obvious that the 49ers are looking to move on" from the 22-year-old. The Vikings would be wise to pursue adding him behind Cousins with hopes that he's ready to take over in 2024.
