Dwyane Wade: Aging Superstar Wise to Make 2012 Olympics His Last

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Miami Heat point guard Dwyane Wade may be a superstar, but the U.S. Olympic team is going to have to win without him after 2012.

That's because Wade has reportedly said the 2012 Olympics in London will be his final stint on the USA Basketball team.

Wade said in an interview with Fox Sports Florida, via Chris Tomasson of FoxSports.com, "This is my last run."

Asked if he would return for another Olympics, Wade said, "No chance. No chance at all. Not a chance."

Well, that about settles it.

It is worth noting that Wade said the same thing after the 2008 Olympics, but Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and LeBron James apparently convinced him to return.

But this is different. Wade is 29 years old now. When you are bordering on 30 years of age in the NBA you might as well be called 40 years old.

Plus, patriotism aside, Wade shouldn't jeopardize what he has with Heat. After James and Chris Bosh joined him in Miami last season, he has a chance to start a dynasty with the trio. After a year together, the "Big Three" look better than ever alongside one another and have entered this season looking to prove something.

FYI, the Heat have started off the season 5-0 and looked remarkable in the process, beating the defending champion Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics along the way.

Wade has already won his gold medal with the USA Basketball team. He's given to his country. Now he needs to save his legs for what has been the most exciting team in basketball.

Wade made the right choice deciding to end his Olympics career after 2012.
