WWE WrestleMania 39: Updated Card, PPV Schedule and Predicting the Match Listing

Erik BeastonMar 29, 2023

WWE will present its annual Showcase of the Immortals at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles this weekend, with a packed card featuring championship clashes, grudge matches and family feuds.

John Cena will kick off WrestleMania 39 when he challenges cocky youngster Austin Theory for the United States Championship on Night 1 of the pay-per-view, but on what night (and in what order) will the other 12 matches land?

Find out with these predictions for the two-night Show of Shows.

Match Card and PPV Schedule

1 of 3

WrestleMania 39 will take place across two nights for the fourth consecutive year.

Night 1 kicks off Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET, with Night 2 following at the same time Sunday. Both will be preceded by a special two-hour Kickoff show.

The event streams exclusively on Peacock in the United States and will also be available through traditional PPV outlets.

Unlike in years past, WWE has only designated two matches for either day as of publication.

Predicted Saturday Night Lineup

2 of 3

Predicted for Saturday night's show, listed from opener to main event, are:

  1. Cena vs. Theory for the United States title (confirmed)
  2. Men's WrestleMania Showcase match
  3. Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio
  4. Lynch, Stratus and Lita vs. Damage CTRL
  5. Rollins vs. Paul (confirmed for Night 1)
  6. Flair vs. Ripley for the SmackDown women's title
  7. Zayn and Owens vs. The Usos for the tag team titles

Emotion will fuel the first night of action at WrestleMania 39.

The Sami Zayn saga has been at the heart of one of the best stories WWE has ever told. He sought acceptance from The Bloodline, betrayed Roman Reigns when he figured out how manipulative he was, was heartbroken when Jey Uso attacked him, and reunited with best friend Kevin Owens in pursuit of the destruction of the most dominant faction in wrestling.

It is an epic, months-long story that has earned the right to headline The Show of Shows. Since Reigns vs. Rhodes will ultimately top the card, there is no better spot for the start of The Bloodline's demise than the main event of Night 1.

Nothing else will top it for fans' reactions, so why even put any other match on the card in the unenviable position of having to follow it?

Emotion will also be front and center as father and son, Rey and Dominik Mysterio, do battle.

Rey tried so hard to avoid a showdown with Dom that he called "the ultimate disgrace for a father," but his spoiled brat of a son pushed him too far by disrespecting his mother and Rey's wife, Angie.

The Saturday night card, as it is laid out above, could continue the trend of previous 'Manias in which the first night tops the second. Cena will electrify the crowd at the start, Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul is a potential show-stealer, and Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley have demonstrated the in-ring chemistry necessary to have an all-timer.

Predicted Sunday Night Lineup

3 of 3

Predicted for Sunday night's show, listed from opener to main event, are:

  1. Belair vs. Asuka for the Raw women's title
  2. Lesnar vs. Omos
  3. Edge vs. Bálor in Hell in a Cell
  4. McIntyre vs. Sheamus vs. Gunther for the intercontinental title
  5. Women's WrestleMania Showcase match
  6. Rhodes vs. Reigns

Bianca Belair has established herself as one of the best big-match performers in WWE.

She may be known as The EST of WWE right now, but if her first two nights on wrestling's grandest stage are any indication, she may well adopt the Miss WrestleMania nickname.

Match of the Year candidates against Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch in 2021 and 2022, respectively, have heightened expectations for her showdown with another celebrated competitor in Asuka.

Putting them at the top of the show demonstrates trust in the women to set the tone for the night's event, while giving them the opportunity to have a great match in front of a hot crowd.

The Intercontinental Championship match between Drew McIntyre, Sheamus and Gunther is capable of stealing the entire weekend based on their previous encounters with each other, so putting it at the top of the show may create an impossible ask for the remainder of the bill.

Reigns vs. Rhodes is the only real choice for the main event, a showdown between the top two stars in the industry and a match that should bring about change for the WWE product moving forward.
