Early WWE WrestleMania 39 Match Card Picks, Including Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes
WrestleMania 39 is rapidly approaching, and this needs to be one of the best shows WWE has ever put together. Triple H is in control of creative for his first Show of Shows, and he will want to put his stamp on the company's biggest event.
The card is not quite set, but the key matches have been announced.
Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes will be the main event of WrestleMania Goes Hollywood at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, and John Cena will return to The Grandest Stage of Them All to fight Austin Theory for the United States Championship.
Seth Rollins will look to shut up Logan Paul. Charlotte Flair will face a motivated Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women's Championship, while Bianca Belair defends the Raw title against Asuka.
The following are predictions for those matches and more going into WrestleMania 39, including trying to figure out on what night each match will happen to make the best show possible.
Most Likely Unannounced Matches
1 of 10Night 1
WWE women's tag team champions Becky Lynch and Lita vs. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler.
This has not been teased as much as it is needed on the WrestleMania card. It would be even better for the women's tag team division if Lynch and Lita were not working both nights, but right now, it is hard to tell if there will be enough time to move the titles early.
Rousey and Baszler can be the team to revitalize the division, one title defense at a time. That starts with a definitive win over whoever holds the championships.
Prediction: Rousey and Baszler by submission after Damage CTRL interference.
WWE undisputed tag team champions The Usos (c) vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
This is the match everyone is talking about, even without an official announcement. In storyline, Owens refuses to team with Zayn, but the two have too much history. It will turn around, and they will be the downfall of The Usos.
Prediction: Zayn and KO by pinfall after a competitive main event clash.
Night 2
Bray Wyatt vs. Bobby Lashley
This oddball feud has been building over weeks. Wyatt continues to play mind games with The All Mighty, and soon they will need to settle it in the ring. This can hopefully be the moment when Wyatt shows he can still go in the ring while staying dominant.
Prediction: Wyatt by pinfall following a supernatural distraction.
Dominik Mysterio vs. Rey Mysterio
This is one of the best-told stories going into WrestleMania. While The Master of the 619 has yet to agree to fight Dom, the stage has been set for a monumental battle of father vs. son. There is almost no way Rey won't put over his boy in the end.
Prediction: Dom by pinfall after pulling off his father's mask.
Night 1: Brock Lesnar vs. Omos
2 of 10Brock Lesnar could not miss the WrestleMania card, but his match with Omos has no real spark. It is a random filler in between his battles with Bobby Lashley that might have been a better TV match than one for a pay-per-view.
However, a contained battle of big men could be a nice change of pace on the current card. It just cannot go much longer than five minutes.
The Nigerian Giant has not shown he can work longer bouts, even though he has worked with great wrestlers such as AJ Styles and Lashley.
His best match to date was with Braun Strowman in a seven-minute brawl that should be used as the framework for this one.
Lesnar will win. Few can beat him, but perhaps Omos can show his talent by keeping up with a multiple-time world champion.
Prediction: Lesnar by pinfall in a short match.
Night 1: Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul
3 of 10Seth Rollins has been a rock-solid foundation of WWE for a long time, and he has looked better than ever this past year. He guided Raw through a tough time when Roman Reigns rarely appeared and Cody Rhodes was injured.
The Head of the Table and The American Nightmare have now become the center of WWE television on both brands, but that has not stopped The Visionary from remaining a valuable performer.
He will fight Logan Paul in a match that could well steal the show. Rollins has built this feud through his promos recently while waiting for a few key moments to confront The Ultimate Influencer.
The Visionary should pick up the victory, but WWE is heavily committed to Paul and his future. He suffered his first loss to Reigns at Crown Jewel in November, so it's hard to imagine him losing twice in a row.
Rollins has also made a career out of taking losses but still rising in standing.
Prediction: Paul by pinfall with help from his brother, Jake.
Night 1: Intercontinental Champion Gunther vs. Drew McIntyre and/or Sheamus
4 of 10While the March 17 edition of SmackDown is supposed to set up a definitive challenger for Gunther, it is too good a story to pit McIntyre and Sheamus against each other while trying to take on The Ring General.
Gunther is going to run with the Intercontinental Championship for a while, and he has at least one singles match left on a major stage with both The Scottish Warrior and The Celtic Warrior.
In the meantime, this can be one of the best matches of WrestleMania weekend. Even if The Ring General is certain to win, everyone will buy in when these three fight their hardest on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
Prediction: Gunther by pinfall after taking advantage of McIntyre and Sheamus in-fighting.
Night 1: Raw Women's Champion Bianca Belair vs. Asuka
5 of 10WWE has not done nearly enough to sell Bianca Belair vs. Asuka. This is one of the biggest matches of The EST of WWE's title reign, and she has never fought The Empress of Tomorrow one-on-one.
That should have made the story easy to sell, but WWE has done almost nothing to set the stage. This would indicate that Belair will retain since The Empress of Tomorrow has not been built as the next titleholder.
However, Belair has held the gold for a year. If she makes it past Asuka, no one is left. It would be a waste to miss this opportunity.
The Empress should be the one to dethrone The EST. Belair can eventually get her revenge. It will just take her time to build herself back up on the chase.
Prediction: Asuka by pinfall after using the mist.
Night 1: Hell in a Cell, Edge vs. Finn Bálor
6 of 10WWE has been building the story of Edge vs. Finn Bálor since WrestleMania 38, when The Judgment Day first began to form. It makes sense that it will happen inside Hell in a Cell as one of the featured matches of the first night.
The Prince has defeated The Rated-R Superstar before, but it was a dubious victory that involved all of the heel stable. Inside the Cell, Bálor will be alone.
That makes this an interesting match that could go either way. However, as the likely only member of The Judgment Day off the card, Damian Priest has to find a role to play.
With that advantage, Bálor can win, and he really has to win. This can be an important moment for The Judgment Day and the Irishman's career. The group can truly go on a run after a clean sweep of 'Mania victories.
Prediction: Bálor by pinfall after Priest gets involved.
Night 2: Becky Lynch, Lita and Trish Stratus vs. Damage CTRL
7 of 10Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai formed a powerful trio at SummerSlam 2022, but the group have struggled to pick up big wins.
They go into WrestleMania as a unified front against the odd pairing of Becky Lynch, Trish Stratus and Lita. There is no reason Damage CTRL should lose in this moment over gaining a necessary win to build necessary momentum.
Lita and Stratus are legends of WWE. It is smart to have them involved at WrestleMania, but both can do more.
This could be a great moment to pull off a big shift in WWE. Stratus or Lita can turn against Lynch and perhaps even join Damage CTRL. This is a great story to tell for months to come and may revitalize the WWE women's division.
Prediction: Damage CTRL by pinfall when Stratus walks out on Lynch.
Night 2: United States Champion Austin Theory vs. John Cena
8 of 10The return of John Cena to WWE has made a huge impact on the company.
He will be fighting Austin Theory, who has long risen up the ranks in WWE but is still nowhere near his opponent's level. This could be an important moment in the 25-year-old's career.
While Cena is looking to give back to the business, he is also a bigger star than Theory has ever been. WWE cannot take away from that aura by setting him up to lose too often.
Is Theory ready to beat WWE's biggest part-time Superstar? Probably not, but the argument could continue all the way to the day of WrestleMania 39.
In the end, Cena can win a record sixth United States Championship to add to his legacy and make many question how long he will be able to stick around.
It may just be a one-day reign, but it will certainly get people to tune into the Raw after The Show of Shows.
Prediction: Cena by pinfall with a super Attitude Adjustment.
Night 2: SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley
9 of 10Charlotte Flair has defeated Rhea Ripley twice so far in their two clashes. If The Queen defeats her again, it could set back The Eradicator for years to come.
This is the time to commit to one more top woman in WWE. Ripley has been the biggest star in the women's division as of late, overshadowing both champions.
This should be a no-brainer. Flair and the Australian have always had chemistry. It will be a great match, overcoming a sloppy build so far.
When Ripley hopefully wins, she could be a spectacular champion.
Prediction: Ripley by submission in a competitive battle that ends with The Eradicator overpowering The Queen.
Night 2: Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes
10 of 10Roman Reigns will have held the WWE Universal Championship for over 940 days by the time he walks into WrestleMania. He has defeated nearly every major contender in the company.
However, Cody Rhodes is undefeated since returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38. He had a spectacular feud with Seth Rollins that ended in an unforgettable Hell in a Cell match.
While some great stories have been told with Jey Uso, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn, no one has the credibility and star power of The American Nightmare walking into this main event.
Rhodes is hoping WWE is ready to bet on him as the top guy, and fans have been clamoring to see a change at the top.
This is a complete toss-up. If everyone in WWE is not completely behind The American Nightmare, he will lose. However, it just feels like the right time.
Rhodes must get his moment, or no one will ever feel right again to dethrone the champion.
Prediction: Rhodes by pinfall after a final trio of Cross Rhodes.
