Projecting the Most Likely Heel and Face Turns at AEW Revolution 2023

Kevin BergeMar 2, 2023

All Elite Wrestling pay-per-views are often special events, bringing out the best that the company has to offer in big matches.

AEW Revolution 2023 has not carried the same hype as past editions, but it still feels stacked. The stars are out to compete and set the standard for the year in matches that should be memorable.

It will be important for the company to use this show to make a splash and build forward with angles that can get everyone talking.

One way to do that is to make a dramatic story move. This could mean a heel turning over a new leaf or a face deciding to fight dirty.

Certain stars stand out as ready to make that change. Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli are on the edge. Daniel Garcia has long waited on an opportunity to stand apart. Ruby Soho must choose her side.

The following are the most likely heel and face turns to come out of Sunday's Revolution and set a new tone for the rest of the year.

Heel: Ruby Soho

1 of 5

Ruby Soho has been stuck between two growing women's factions in AEW. Saraya and Toni Storm have been calling out the AEW Originals, especially Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter.

They have also gone after Willow Nightingale, Riho and Hikaru Shida. Soho has stuck up for the talent when she can, but as much as she has shown her appreciation to AEW in the past, she is not an original.

While she never got her due in WWE, she was in the company for a consistent four-year span. She arrived in AEW with hype because of that run, but she still has yet to fully connect with a fanbase that is devoted to the talent that started in the company.

Soho could fit more naturally alongside Saraya and Storm. It would certainly be a big moment for her to finally win the AEW Women's Championship by allying herself with the most despised female heels in the promotion right now.

This is the most likely turn of the night and will only fully work if The Punk Rock Ragdoll takes the title. This summer could allow the women to thrive, and Revolution will set the stage for the story continuing to build. Soho will play a key role in that angle.

Heel: Paul Wight

2 of 5

Paul Wight is one of the biggest stars, literally and figuratively, in AEW, but he has done little in the company to date. When healthy, he has wrestled just four matches while mostly focusing on commentary.

The 51-year-old is a valuable veteran presence backstage but can do more in AEW, and it likely begins by reuniting with Chris Jericho.

As reported by Robert Defelice on Fightful.com, The Wizard recently filed a trademark for the name Jeri-Show. This was the old name of Jericho and Wight's tag team in WWE. They are former unified WWE tag team champions.

While Jericho could have been simply protecting a potential brand, it is telling that his match with Ricky Starks only excludes the members of the Jericho Appreciation Society from interfering. The former Big Show is an old friend who could help him without breaking that rule.

This would set Wight up to finally find a clear spot in AEW and let him compete occasionally against wrestlers who would benefit from working with a long-time veteran.

Face: Daniel Garcia

3 of 5

Month after month, AEW has crawled closer to a face turn for Daniel Garcia, who has now become a grunt in the Jericho Appreciation Society, protecting Sammy Guevara at every turn.

This has caused The Dragon Slayer to lose some steam, just months after he nearly broke out following his feud with Bryan Danielson.

Assuming Jericho could be adding a new ally to his group by the end of Revolution, JAS can afford to lose a member.

This will set the stage for a long-awaited match between Jericho and Garcia. The two can be better rivals than friends, and The Wizard can do what he has done for Orange Cassidy, MJF and others by taking him to the next level.

Heel: Blackpool Combat Club

4 of 5

Blackpool Combat Club continue to work in a gray space as popular talent feuding with clear fan favorites. In particular, Jon Moxley has picked a fight with "Hangman" Adam Page.

Mox will fight The Cowboy one-on-one in a Texas Death match on Sunday. It should be a fair contest, but Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta could attempt to help The Death Rider.

If BCC cheat Page out of a final win in this rivalry, it would be the moment that solidifies the group as heels. Yuta has certainly looked ready to go full bad guy in his matches, and both Mox and The Swiss Superman have plenty of experience as villains.

Where would this leave Bryan Danielson, who is more popular than ever? It could lead to the excommunication of The American Dragon from the group he founded. The show could even end with BCC turning against him.

If BCC remain face, it would be a nice moment to see Moxley and Page show each other mutual respect at the end of one last brutal brawl.

Face: Scorpio Sky

5 of 5

Scorpio Sky has not been seen in an AEW ring since July 6, 2022. The former TNT champion took some time off after losing his title to recover from a leg injury.

As Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful.com reported, the 39-year-old was cleared to return in the fall of 2022, but AEW has not had a clear creative plan for him.

It is about time Sky returned to action. While he could confront the winner of Samoa Joe vs. Wardlow for the TNT Championship, he has a bigger story to tell with Ethan Page and The Firm.

Hook has been in a constant fight with Malcolm Bivens and the group, and his primary ally, Jungle Boy, has been sidetracked by the return of Christian Cage. He needs help.

Sky could step in, protecting Hook and starting a feud with Page. It would be an easy story to tell. Sky was gaining popularity before his time off, and his partner, All Ego, only built more heat with the crowd.

Page was holding Sky back from getting over.
