Bray Wyatt's Tired Gimmick, Booking Trish Stratus at WrestleMania, More WWE Raw Takes

Kevin BergeFeb 28, 2023

WWE Raw still has serious work left to build up WrestleMania 39, and the February 27 episode featured more matches than serious story development.

Lita won her first title in the company since 2006, when she claimed the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships with Becky Lynch. Damage CTRL fell, and Bayley fought a returning Trish Stratus.

The Miz announced he will be hosting WrestleMania 39, but his big moment was ruined by Seth Rollins, who called out Logan Paul for next week.

Bray Wyatt made a bizarre appearance as "The Muscle Man" to taunt Bobby Lashley, moving closer to the two facing off.

This edition of Raw was most memorable for its main event, but the build is continuing to grow for The Show of Shows.

Bray Wyatt Has Worn Out His Welcome Since Return

1 of 4

Bray Wyatt's return to WWE in October was one of the best moments in recent company history, but nothing since has lived up to that initial hype.

His feud with LA Knight was slow and plodding, and now he's approaching WrestleMania with no story behind his oddly thrown-together rivalry with Bobby Lashley.

Wyatt promised to be a long-term storyteller in a company that is far too short-term, yet nothing built since October 2022 has sold this matchup as a possibility.

The 35-year-old has tapped into his Firefly FunHouse gimmick recently with mixed results, and the crowd had no idea how to react to his bizarre dance routine on Monday's Raw.

This feud can still work, as can Wyatt's overall presentation in WWE, but something more needs to happen. He must show he can do more than speak cryptically and confuse audiences.

Ideally, Wyatt will show his dangerous edge soon; a side of his personality that can compete at the highest levels of the business again.

Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul is Most Anticipated Non-Title Match for WM

2 of 4

Seth Rollins is doing the job he has done in past years by building a story from scraps going into WrestleMania.

While Logan Paul is rarely around, The Visionary is selling the importance of fighting the social media star.

It will certainly be one of the best matches on the card. Paul has had good battles with The Miz, the Mysterios and Roman Reigns already, but Rollins could be the best in-ring worker he has performed with.

What matters more is the story. WrestleMania is a time for big matches that come from grand stories. WWE has not shown that much so far in this year's build.

While Brock Lesnar vs. Omos and Bobby Lashley vs. Bray Wyatt come off as contrived, Rollins has done enough heavy lifting to make this one of Raw's top stories for The Show of Shows.

Trish Stratus Return Should Lead to Singles Match with Bayley

3 of 4

After much speculation, Trish Stratus is finally back in WWE. She returned at just the right time to help Lita and Becky Lynch win the women's tag team titles on Monday night.

Her main focus was taking down Bayley to even the numbers for her friends against Damage CTRL. While the obvious first play is Lynch, Lita and Stratus vs. the heel faction, there is an even more exciting matchup to consider against the group's leader.

It may not happen at SoFi Stadium on April 1-2, but WWE would be missing out by not booking Stratus vs. Bayley on a major pay-per-view.

The Role Model has been at the forefront of the women's evolution, while Stratus was one of the biggest female stars of the previous era.

It's a dream match that can help to reestablish the aura of Damage CTRL.

Lita, Becky Lynch Must Drop Tag Titles Before WrestleMania

4 of 4

Becky Lynch and Lita tagged together just once and captured the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships.

While it's nice to see a legend given her due and The Man finally gain some direction again, this does nothing for the women's tag team division.

Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky were the only bright spot of a division in flux, but they could find few challengers due to poor WWE planning.

If the company wants to rebuild the division with fresh champions, Lynch and Lita must act purely as transitional champions.

They could move the titles over to Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler, who have enough history to be the rare true team in the division. That would make for a quality match on SmackDown in the coming weeks.

The WWE Women's Tag Team Championships deserve a spot on the card separate from the Damage CTRL story.

Lynch, Lita and Trish Stratus are still likely to fight the trio at WrestleMania, but Rousey and Baszler can face Natalya and Tegan Nox in a separate match with the gold on the line to round out the card.
