Gervonta Davis Says He'll Be Ready for Ryan Garcia Fight Despite Ankle Injury
Gervonta Davis was seen moving around in a wheelchair while attending Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, but he doesn't believe his ankle injury will hinder him in a highly anticipated upcoming fight.
Per TMZ Sports, Davis said he expects to be healthy in time for his match against Ryan Garcia after they reportedly agreed to a fight date of April 15.
Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) is coming off an eighth-round TKO win over Hector Garcia in January to retain his WBA (regular) lightweight title. It's unclear when exactly he suffered the injury, but the 28-year-old will only have two months to recover before stepping into the ring against Garcia if their bout agreement is signed.
Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) was once a WBC interim lightweight titleholder and he hasn't fought since his sixth-round TKO victory over Javier Fortuna in July. The 24-year-old phenom showcased his skills by scoring three knockdowns before the fight came to an end.
Davis and Garcia have been circling each other for quite some time, as the two have gone back and forth on social media on multiple occasions. There was also an instance in which the two of them were involved in an altercation in a nightclub in September.
Despite their rivalry, Davis and Garcia have the chance to produce substantial business together. They are two of the best boxers in the world under the age of 30, and a match between them would undoubtedly draw significant interest.
