Projecting the Most Likely Heel and Face Turns at WWE Elimination Chamber 2023
WWE Elimination Chamber 2023 has an important role to play on The Road to WrestleMania 39: It will be the final stop for many to set their course.
With two same-titled matches on Saturday's pay-per-view card, along with a hotly anticipated Undisputed WWE Universal Championship between Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn, anything can happen.
Many involved at the Bell Centre in Montreal could use this event to make an important change that can set their path for The Show of Shows on April 1-2.
Heel and face turns are common around this time, but certain names stand out clearly for a switch this year.
From Jey Uso to Asuka, these are the most likely wrestlers to turn heel or face at Elimination Chamber.
Heel (or Face): Jey Uso
1 of 4In the hottest angle WWE has put together in years, fans are watching three wrestlers closely: Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn and Jey Uso. While the first two will be fighting each other on Saturday night, it is Jey's involvement that could be crucial in deciding a winner.
The first recruit to The Bloodline, Jey was tortured on his way to joining the stable. Reigns threatened to end the career of Jimmy Uso to force his cousin to join the group.
This has always made him the most unpredictable member of the faction, even when Jimmy came in to ease the transition. Zayn and Jey went from enemies to friends just before The Honorary Uce turned against The Bloodline.
This has left Jey conflicted, questioning who he can trust once again. He has a chance to either protect his family or truly challenge The Head of the Table for the first time in years.
It is more likely Jey will choose his brother over a friend, but nothing is certain. Until then, he is neither a heel nor a face. The Road to WrestleMania will be defined by what he chooses.
Heel: Asuka
2 of 4Bianca Belair has almost gone a full year as Raw women's champion. She needs a special challenger, and her opponent will be decided inside the Elimination Chamber.
It seems likely Asuka will be the woman across the ring from The EST of WWE at WrestleMania 39. However, the company has rarely booked matches between two faces for major shows because it's easier to tell big stories with a clear hero and villain.
The Empress of Tomorrow has gone through a recent transformation but remains a fan favorite. That can change if she shows a darker side inside the Chamber.
The No. 1 Contender's match is loaded with fan favorites. Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez and Natalya are also faces, but Asuka can quickly get the crowd against her if she plays dirty, especially against Morgan.
Belair vs. Asuka can be a special match with or without The Empress turning, though. It's all down to what makes for the best story and allows these women to stand out in a stacked WrestleMania lineup.
Face: Legado del Fantasma
3 of 4Currently, Legado del Fantasma do not have a role at Elimination Chamber, but the group has been on the precipice of a major change during WrestleMania season.
Santos Escobar exchanged masks with Rey Mysterio after the February 10 edition of SmackDown, displaying a more sensitive side.
The Usos still need a clear challenger for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, and Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro have the talent to make a quick change and rise up the ranks as a serious threat.
All it would take is Legado del Fantasma confronting The Bloodline on Saturday night to set up a huge push for a team that is ready to shine.
Heel: Mustafa Ali
4 of 4Mustafa Ali is not fitting in on WWE Raw. After exploding back on the scene by challenging Seth Rollins for the United States title, he has been repeatedly overshadowed by other stars, especially Austin Theory.
Recently, the 36-year-old has been complaining primarily to Dolph Ziggler about his poor treatment. As he grows more aggrieved, it seems all the more likely he will do something rash to get what he wants.
While a less dramatic option would be for Ali to attack The Showoff or team up with him to find a new path, WWE has a way to jump-start this story by having him attempt to get into the men's Elimination Chamber match he never got a chance to qualify for.
It would not be the first time a heel has attacked a contender and stolen their spot, especially since Ali has made clear how much he wants to be United States champion. Johnny Gargano or Montez Ford would be the easiest targets for him on Saturday night.
If WWE takes this route, Ali would need to have a strong showing, perhaps even winning to solidify his turn. If the company is ready to push him more than he has been in recent years, this is the perfect opportunity.
