Ben Simmons Memes, Jokes Storm NBA Twitter as Nets Trade Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving
One of the wildest trade deadline seasons in recent memory took another turn late Wednesday night when the Brooklyn Nets reportedly sent all-time great Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Brooklyn traded Durant and T.J. Warren to Phoenix for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four unprotected future first-round picks (2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029) and a 2028 pick swap.
Seeing how the Nets had already traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, NBA Twitter was quick to jump on the opportunity to make jokes about Ben Simmons being by himself:
The Durant trade marked the official end to the Brooklyn chapter that saw the team chase a championship with him, Irving and James Harden as a Big Three. The trio rarely got the opportunity to play together because of injuries and other absences, and Harden was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers last season.
As for Phoenix, the combination of Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Durant will be difficult to top in the Western Conference if they all remain healthy and on the floor.
