NFL Exec Doesn't Think Teams Will Match Lamar Jackson Trade Value, Contract Demands

Rob GoldbergFeb 6, 2023

NFL personnel predict Lamar Jackson will remain with the Baltimore Ravens because of his excessive contract demands.

"If it wasn't for all of the comments that (general manager) Eric DeCosta and (coach) John Harbaugh said in their postseason presser, I would think he is going to get traded," an NFL executive told Mike Sando of The Athletic. "I feel like he is just going to get tagged now and play on the tag. I don't think anyone is going to offer-sheet him for two ones and his contract demands."

Jackson is set to become a free agent this offseason, but the Ravens can keep him under team control using the franchise tag. With a non-exclusive tag, another team can sign the quarterback to an offer sheet and give up two first-round picks to acquire Jackson.

It could still be difficult for any team to agree to a long-term deal with the 26-year-old, who has been seeking a fully guaranteed contract similar to Deshaun Watson, as ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter reported in September.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday that Jackson and the Ravens are $100 million apart in contract talks when it comes to guaranteed money, via Dov Kleiman.

It's enough of an opening for opposing teams to considering adding the 2019 MVP.

Another executive told Sando that the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons could make sense as landing spots for Jackson, although they predicted the quarterback would stay put in 2023.

"I think Baltimore tags him and holds onto him."
