Warriors Rumors: Stephen Curry Out 'Multiple Weeks' with Leg Injury; Set to Miss ASG

Rob GoldbergFeb 5, 2023

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is expected to miss "multiple weeks" after suffering a left leg injury, per Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic.

C.J. Holmes of the San Francisco Chronicle reported Curry "avoided serious structural damage" after an MRI but noted that "caution, pain tolerance and an eventual return to conditioning" will contribute to his absence.

The Warriors provided specific details on the nature of the injury:

The guard is expected to miss the All-Star Game because of the injury, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Curry was ruled out of Saturday's game against the Dallas Mavericks after suffering a leg injury in the third quarter:

The Warriors closed out the 119-113 win without the superstar, and head coach Steve Kerr was certain his team could focus without him.

"If he's out, then we do move forward," Kerr said after the game. "...We'll be ready for OKC regardless."

Golden State is scheduled to host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday.

The Warriors already lasted three weeks without Curry in December and January after the player suffered a left shoulder subluxation, costing him 11 games. The team went 6-5 during that stretch.

Curry remains an elite player when healthy, averaging 29.4 points, 6.4 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game. He's shooting 42.7 percent from three-point range, making a league-best 4.9 threes per game, while his .619 effective shooting percentage would be the second-highest mark of his career.

He was voted an All-Star starter, representing his ninth career selection, but he's now unlikely to play in the Feb. 19 game. Curry also won't have an opportunity to win his third Three-Point Contest title.

Losing the two-time MVP for another extended stretch could be especially damaging for the Warriors, which entered Sunday seventh in the Western Conference with a 27-26 record.

Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole should become focal points of the offense going forward, while Donte DiVincenzo could reenter the starting lineup.
