NBA Trade Rumors: Blazers 'Absolutely in a Buying Mode' amid O.G. Anunoby Buzz
Despite losing 13 of their last 21 games, the Portland Trail Blazers aren't shying away from trying to add talent ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline.
On the latest episode of The Hoop Collective Podcast (h/t RealGM.com), ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported the Blazers are "absolutely in a buying mode" and they "would be very interested" if the Toronto Raptors make O.G. Anunoby available.
Portland's front office has spent more than a year trying to figure out ways to retool their roster and maximize the remainder of Damian Lillard's prime.
After trading CJ McCollum to the New Orleans Pelicans before the deadline last season, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski noted the Blazers planned to "fully reshape" their roster around Lillard with a $21 million trade exception and up to $60 million in cap space.
Lillard signed a two-year extension with the Blazers during the offseason that runs through 2026-27. They also acquired Jerami Grant in a trade with the Detroit Pistons.
Chris Haynes, then writing for Yahoo Sports, reported leading up to the draft that Portland was trying to use the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft to acquire Anunoby.
When the Blazers were unable to find a deal, they used the pick to take Shaedon Sharpe. The 19-year-old has shown promise in a limited role this season. He's averaging 7.7 points per game and shooting 34.6 percent from three-point range in 50 appearances.
Windhorst noted any potential offer the Blazers make for Anunoby "would probably start" with Sharpe.
The Raptors figure to have their pick of deals to choose from if they make Anunoby available. Michael Grange of SportsNet reported the New York Knicks are prepared to offer three first-round picks for the 25-year-old, though all of them belong to other teams and are protected between the top 10 and 18 picks.
The Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans and Phoenix Suns are among the other potential suitors for Anunoby.
Portland currently sits in 11th place in the Western Conference with a 25-26 record, but it's only two games behind the Dallas Mavericks in the No. 4 spot.
