WWE Rumors: Brock Lesnar Has 'Heat' Backstage for Tossing Referee at Royal Rumble

Mike ChiariFeb 2, 2023

Brock Lesnar reportedly garnered some backstage heat for going off-script during last weekend's Royal Rumble premium live event.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Sunil Joseph of Ringside News), Lesnar was planned to throw a tantrum after getting eliminated from the men's Royal Rumble match by Bobby Lashley, but some of his actions were unexpected.

Among them was throwing part of the announce table into the ring; however, the biggest transgression was reportedly his assault on a referee.

Per Fightful, The Beast Incarnate took it upon himself to throw referee Eddie Orengo over the barricade during his tirade. There was reportedly some concern about Orengo suffering a foot injury on the spot, but it isn't known if that was the case.

Orengo was reportedly supposed to be the one to raise Cody Rhodes' hand after winning the men's Royal Rumble, but that had to be changed since Orengo went backstage to sell the attack.

A source told Fightful that "heat is a relative term" with Lesnar, noting that he isn't likely to get in any real trouble over the incident. The source also said that while it was unclear if anyone involved in the angle was mad about it, some people backstage were.

Lesnar, who won last year's Royal Rumble match, entered the 2023 Rumble at No. 12 and made an instant impact, eliminating several Superstars immediately.

His time in the Rumble was short-lived, though, as Lashley entered soon after and eliminated Lesnar, furthering their heated rivalry.

After taking some time off, Lesnar returned on the Raw prior to Royal Rumble by costing Lashley in his United States Championship match against Austin Theory.

Lesnar and Lashley have faced each other in two singles matches since last year, and they each have one victory. Lesnar won most recently, beating Lashley at Crown Jewel in November.

Based on the events of Royal Rumble, all signs point toward the rubber match taking place at WrestleMania 39, which will be held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on April 1 and 2.
