NBA Rumors: Hawks' Bogdan Bogdanovic Interests 'Half the League' at Trade Deadline

Doric SamFeb 1, 2023

As the Feb. 9 trade deadline draws closer, the Atlanta Hawks reportedly have a coveted player that interests multiple teams around the NBA.

According to The Athletic's Sam Amick, "half the league is calling" the Hawks to inquire about potential trades for shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Amick noted that Bogdanovic has an $18 million player option for next season remaining on his contract, which likely makes him a "short-term rental" for any team that acquires him. However, the Hawks "haven't shown much interest in moving him" up to this point.

After missing the start of the season while recovering from knee surgery, Bogdanovic has appeared in 26 games this season with five starts and is averaging 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists in a career-high 30.8 minutes per game. The 30-year-old has scored 20 points or more in two of his last three appearances.

A career 38.2-percent shooter from three-point range, Bogdanovic is an attractive player for teams looking to add some offensive firepower for the stretch run of the season.

The Hawks currently rank eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 25-26 record. In addition to Bogdanovic, Atlanta forward John Collins and center Clint Capela have been the subject of trade speculation in recent weeks. The team needs to have the right pieces around star point guard Trae Young if it hopes to perennially compete for a playoff spot.

Collins is owed $78.5 million over the next three seasons and has a player option for 2025-26, while Capela is owed $43 million over the next two seasons. Atlanta could be forced to make some decisions to address its future payroll situation, which could result in some immediate changes to its roster.
