National Signing Day 2023: Final Recruit Announcement Schedule and Predictions
Jaden Rashada's college football recruitment has been one of the most bizarre stories of the recruiting cycle.
The four-star quarterback out of Pittsburg, California, decommitted from the Florida Gators after issues arose from a potential NIL deal that was part of his original commitment. The Athletic's G. Allan Taylor broke down how the saga unfolded.
Rashada will commit to a new school on Wednesday, which is the final national signing day of the high school class of 2023.
The No. 7 quarterback in the class, per 247Sports, has a handful of Power Five schools after his signature, including the National Championship runner-up TCU Horned Frogs.
TCU is in competition with a trio of Pac-12 schools for Rashada, who is one of a few remaining high-profile recruits left to sign.
Duce Robinson, the No. 1 tight end in the class, and Nyckoles Harbor, the No. 1 athlete, are the other two top players to watch for their commitments on Wednesday. The full schedule of commitments can be found here on 247Sports.
Wednesday marks the final day in which the class of 2023 recruits can ink their national letters of intent. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs and Texas Longhorns, in that order, own the top three overall classes.
Jaden Rashada, QB, Pittsburg HS (Pittsburg, CA)
Jaden Rashada appeared to be all set to be in Florida's camp just a month ago.
However, his NIL deal falling apart opened Rashada's recruitment back up to the rest of the Power Five schools.
Arizona State, California, TCU and Washington are all potential landing spots for Rashada. He visited TCU last weekend, as ESPN.com noted.
TCU has more pull in the recruiting cycle than it did 12 months ago because of its run to the National Championship Game under first-year head coach Sonny Dykes.
Dykes can build the Horned Frogs into the team to beat in the Big 12 with Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners on the way to the SEC.
TCU does not have a quarterback committed in the class of 2023. Chandler Morris, who lost the job to Max Duggan last season, is the best quarterback option on the team's depth chart.
Arizona State and Washington can both make strong pitches to Rashada as well. The Sun Devils are looking to rebuild their roster under new head coach Kenny Dillingham, who thrived with Bo Nix as his quarterback as the Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator. Nix threw for a career-best 3,593 yards and 29 touchdowns under Dillingham's tutelage.
Washington can use Michael Penix Jr.'s success under head coach Kalen DeBoer as part of the pitch to Rashada, but he would have to sit in his freshman season since Penix is returning to school.
California seems like a long shot because of what TCU and Arizona State can offer. The Golden Bears have not had a winning season since 2019, and they are further away from success than the other competitors for Rashada.
Arizona State has an intriguing program because of the Dillingham hire, but Rashada can achieve instant success with TCU, and the lure of playing right away for an established contender could be too much for the quarterback to pass up.
Prediction: TCU
Duce Robinson, TE, Pinnacle HS (Phoenix, AZ)
The top-ranked unsigned recruit in the country may keep potential suitors waiting past Wednesday.
No. 17 overall prospect Duce Robinson may not sign on Wednesday because of his status in the 2023 MLB draft. He discussed his decision with 247Sports.
"The goal is to be drafted in baseball [this summer] and then hopefully work something out where I could sign a baseball contract and then play college football as well," Robinson told 247Sports recently. "If that doesn't work out, I'll just go to the college route and do both in college and hopefully it works out from there."
Georgia and USC are the two most likely landing spots for Robinson. Georgia's recent development of tight ends, like Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington, could persuade the 6'6" Arizona native to sign with the Bulldogs.
USC possesses the draw of Robinson playing with Caleb Williams in his first collegiate season, if he opts for the football route.
Georgia can use Robinson as the heir apparent to Bowers, who is one of the top rising juniors in college football and is likely headed to the 2024 NFL draft.
The Bulldogs should have a slight edge because of their tight end pedigree, but they may have to wait to officially welcome Robinson to the program.
Prediction: Georgia
Nyckoles Harbor, ATH, Archbishop Carroll HS (Washington, D.C.)
Harbor also has another sport in mind with his commitment.
The top-ranked athlete in the class of 2023 is one of the best track stars in the country, and he could look to a school, like Oregon, to play football and compete in track and field.
Oregon is in the mix for Harbor, as well as South Carolina, which is looking to lure Harbor with its track program.
Maryland will most likely lose out on the hometown recruit, which would serve as a blow to the Terrapins, who are looking to find extra weapons to work with the returning Taulia Tagovailoa.
A commitment to Oregon would finish off a top-10 class for the Ducks, who are positioning themselves as the team to beat in the Pac-12 once USC and the UCLA Bruins depart the conference.
South Carolina, which is 16th in the team rankings, would gain a huge momentum boost for its offseason if it lands Harbor to combine with Spencer Rattler in his second season as Gamecocks quarterback.
Oregon can make a similar pitch as South Carolina because Nix is returning and the Ducks are closer to competing in the College Football Playoff than the Gamecocks going into the 2023 season.
Prediction: Oregon
