Chiefs vs. Eagles: Latest Point Spread, Money Line, Picks for Super Bowl 57

Jake RillFeb 1, 2023

For the third time in four years, the Kansas City Chiefs are heading to the Super Bowl. But if they hope to win a second championship during that span, they'll need to take down the Philadelphia Eagles, who were the top team in the league throughout much of the 2022 NFL season.

Super Bowl LVII, which is set for Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, should be a competitive game. The Chiefs and Eagles are both strong teams and both No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences.

Philadelphia has lost only three games this season, and two of those came when quarterback Jalen Hurts was out because of a right shoulder sprain. Kansas City also has only three losses and is now on a seven-game winning streak.

Preview, Prediction

Like the Chiefs, the Eagles won a Super Bowl title (the first in their franchise's history) not too long ago. However, things have changed quite a bit in Philadelphia since the team ended the 2017 season with a championship.

Hurts wasn't the Eagles' quarterback at that time, and Nick Sirianni wasn't their head coach. Several other key players on Philadelphia's roster also weren't part of that title-winning squad.

Meanwhile, Kansas City still has some core pieces from its team that won the Super Bowl at the conclusion of the 2019 season. Head coach Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce are among those looking to win another championship on Feb. 12.

That experience could be important, especially when it comes to Mahomes. The 27-year-old QB, who will likely soon be named NFL MVP, routinely finds impressive ways to lead the Chiefs to victory.

Mahomes has been crucial to Kansas City's success again this postseason. In the AFC Championship Game, he threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Eagles have a strong defense. But that often doesn't matter when Mahomes is on the other side of the ball. And he'll likely be more ready for the biggest stage than Hurts, a 24-year-old in his third NFL season.

There's a strong argument to be made for Philadelphia to win Super Bowl LVII. It has a well-rounded team that mostly cruised through the regular season with little adversity.

It would also be surprising if this year's Super Bowl isn't a competitive game. These two teams are so evenly matched in the majority of positional matchups that it should be a thrilling contest.

But it's hard to pick against the leadership of Mahomes and Reid, who will aim to lead the Chiefs to victory against his former team. They know how to get it done in the Super Bowl, a game with higher stakes than any other.

In a back-and-forth affair that will feature plenty of offense, expect Mahomes to lead a key final drive that will carry the Chiefs to a win and a Super Bowl title.

Prediction: Chiefs 30, Eagles 27
