Broncos Ridiculed by NFL Twitter for Getting Fleeced in Sean Payton Trade with Saints
The Denver Broncos have their next head coach, but it's going to cost them.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sean Payton will be the head coach of the Denver Broncos. Since Payton was still under contract with the New Orleans Saints when he stepped down ahead of the 2022 campaign, the two teams had to work out compensation to make this work.
As a result, the Broncos sent their 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 second-round pick to the Saints for Payton and a 2024 third-round pick, per Schefter.

Twitter did not approve of the deal from Denver's perspective:
While it was a hefty price to pay for a coach, the Broncos can at least take solace knowing Payton has had success, posting a career record of 152-89. He led the Saints to nine playoff appearances in 15 seasons, including in 2009 when they won the Super Bowl.
His partnership with Drew Brees was also one of the most successful coach and quarterback pairings in recent history, which is notable since Russell Wilson struggled so much in his first season in Denver.
If Payton can help Wilson rediscover his form from his prime on the Seattle Seahawks, perhaps losing a first-round draft pick and more will be worth it to complete this hire.
