Gallus Win New Day's NXT Tag Team Titles at Vengeance Day 2023 Before WrestleMania

Mike ChiariFeb 4, 2023

Gallus defeated the teams of The New Day, Pretty Deadly and Chase University in a Fatal 4-Way tag team match at NXT Vengeance Day on Saturday to become the new NXT tag team champions.

The NXT tag team division was turned on its head in December when Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods arrived on the scene to challenge Pretty Deadly for the titles at NXT Deadline.

The New Day are one of the most successful tag teams in WWE history, having held titles on 11 different occasions on the main roster, but the one thing they had never done was win the NXT tag team titles.

After losing an undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match to The Usos and failing to prevent them from surpassing their own record for the longest tag team title reign in WWE history, they turned their attention to something fresh.

Since there wasn't much for them to do on the main roster, Kingston and Woods took a foray to NXT in order to work with some of WWE's up-and-coming tag teams and add some star power to the show as a whole.

Most of their interactions have been with Pretty Deadly, but in an effort to put some shine on additional teams, The New Day agreed to defend the titles against three tandems at the same time at Vengeance Day.

Pretty Deadly were instantly part of the field, and Gallus earned their way in by beating Elton Prince and Kit Wilson. Chase U completed the lineup after defeating Malik Blade and Edris Enofé and The Dyad in a Triple Threat contest on the go-home episode of NXT.

The New Day found themselves in a difficult position at Vengeance Day since it was possible for them to lose the NXT Tag Team Championships without even getting pinned.

They also had to deal with three of the best teams NXT has to offer, and all of them were hungry to prove themselves against one of the greatest teams in pro wrestling history.

The numbers game caught up to Kingston and Woods at Vengeance Day, as Gallus prevailed and put the tag team titles back in the possession of an NXT duo.
