Brock Lesnar, John Cena or Rock: Who Is Most Likely to Appear at WWE Royal Rumble?

Donald WoodJan 27, 2023

The Royal Rumble is one of the biggest and most exciting wrestling events of the entire year, and some of the most notable part-time Superstars tend to come out of the woodwork at this time of year.

With rumors circulating that Brock Lesnar, The Rock and John Cena are booked for matches at WrestleMania 39, the chances that one or all of the legends could make an appearance during Saturday's pay-per-view have increased dramatically.

Here are our predictions for which of the three will make an appearance at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Brock Lesnar: 90 Percent

After returning on Raw to attack Bobby Lashley and give Austin Theory the win in their United States Championship match, there is little doubt Lesnar will make an appearance come Saturday night.

In a perfect world, Lashley would enter the men's Rumble in the slow middle section of the match. After a short time dominating everyone in the ring, the next performer's music should hit and a midcard act such as The Miz or R-Truth should begin making their way to the ring.

Lesnar should sneak-attack them from behind and take their spot in the men's Rumble match. Lashley would understand the situation immediately, and the two would battle until they both went over the top rope.

The battle would continue through the crowd and eventually into the back, setting up another bout between the pair, either at Elimination Chamber in Montreal on February 18 or WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles on April 1-2.

The Rock: 66 Percent

The Rock has been rumored to be a challenger for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 for months, but a recent report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News) stated there is "skepticism" that the bout will take place.

If The Great One can perform during the second night of The Show of Shows on April 2, then he should be at the Royal Rumble to get the ball rolling on their storyline. With no previous animosity between the family members, WWE Creative has a lot of work to do.

Dwayne Johnson is one of Hollywood's biggest stars, and adding him to WrestleMania would be a major coup for WWE. The key will be developing a storyline that takes advantage of his presence in a way fans can support.

At the Royal Rumble, Reigns should sit ringside during the Battle Royal and analyze his possible future opponents. When the champion goes to get involved in the men's match and turn the result in his favor, The Rock should make his entrance and beat down his cousin.

The stage would then be set for a wild ride on The Road to WrestleMania.

John Cena: 51 Percent

Just as rumors have run rampant about The Rock performing at WrestleMania, WrestleVotes (h/t Louis Dangoor of GiveMeSport) said a match featuring Cena is possible and would help him become a bigger mainstream crossover star.

The speculation is that the 45-year-old will perform in Los Angeles against Austin Theory in a passing-of-the-torch moment, but the best way to get to that would be to have the veteran enter the men's Rumble match as a surprise entrant.

Theory will enter the contest early and when it's almost time for Cena, he should crawl under the top rope and hide without the WWE Universe noticing. As the 16-time champion celebrates his appearance, the 25-year-old should sneak into the ring and dump him out.

By eliminating Cena, the U.S. champion would set the stage for a one-on-one bout that not only gives him a viable challenger for the biggest show of the year but also provides The Cenation Leader the perfect opportunity to portray the lovable babyface on The Road to WrestleMania.
