Under Armour All-America Game 2012: Preview of Game for Florida State Recruiting
Fresh off of their 18-14 victory over Notre Dame in the Champs Sports Bowl, Florida State’s coaching staff will look to shift the momentum gained from a strong finish on the field over to the recruiting trail.
The Seminoles currently have 15 commitments for the class of 2012, six of which will be in action during Thursday’s Under Armour All-America Game 2012.
With a loaded roster returning several key players from last season’s team, the Seminoles have only a few spots left to fill in their 2012 class.
While the game will allow fans to catch a glimpse of several future Seminoles, there are a few undecided targets in action that will be heavily pursued by Jimbo Fisher and his staff until national signing day on Feb. 1.
Here is a preview of the FSU commits and targets in action at the 2012 Under Armour All-America Game.
Marvin Bracy
1 of 9Team: White
Number: 15
Position: WR
Hometown (High School): Orlando, Fla. (Boone)
College Choice: FSU commitment
This dynamite receiver and return specialist possesses elite speed (4.3 40) and may be the fastest high school prospect in the country.
Expect him to make his initial impact at FSU as a return man before breaking through a crowded depth chart at receiver.
Chris Casher
2 of 9Team: White
Number: 21
Position: DE
Hometown (High School): Mobile, Ala. (Davidson)
College Choice: FSU commitment
Casher will return to the football field after missing his senior season due to eligibility issues resulting from him transferring to another school.
Despite his long layoff from football, the standout defensive end remains one of the top players at his position in the nation, and will play alongside Seminole defensive end commitments Mario Edwards Jr. and Dante Fowler Jr.
Mario Edwards Jr.
3 of 9Team: White
Number: 17
Position: DE
Hometown (High School): Denton, Texas (Ryan)
College Choice: FSU commitment
Most analysts regard the son of former Seminole defensive back Mario Edwards as the top prospect in the country.
Edwards is still looking around despite his FSU commitment, but being on a team with five other Seminole commitments could help secure his pledge to play at his father’s alma mater.
Dante Fowler Jr.
4 of 9Team: White
Number: 6
Position: DE
Hometown (High School): St. Petersburg, Fla. (Lakewood)
College Choice: FSU commitment
Fowler is another commitment that will take some visits this month, but the main threat to steal him away is rival Florida.
After playing stints at defensive tackle during his senior season, Fowler will get a final chance to show his versatility in his final high school game in his hometown.
P.J. Williams
5 of 9Team: White
Number: 14
Position: DB
Hometown (High School): Ocala, Fla. (Vanguard)
College Choice: FSU commitment
Williams was the first player in the class of 2012 to commit to Florida State, and is versatile enough to play corner or safety.
He is listed as a safety for this game, but given FSU’s need at corner, his future position will remain a topic for discussion until he arrives on campus in the summer.
Jameis Winston
6 of 9Team: White
Number: 8
Position: QB
Hometown (High School): Hueytown, Ala. (Hueytown)
College Choice: FSU commitment
Winston is rated as the top quarterback prospect in the country by several recruiting services (Rivals and 247 Sports, to name a few), and will get another chance to prove it against top competition.
While rumors abound about him potentially decommitting in favor of Alabama, Winston sent the twitterverse into a frenzy last week with this tweet:
"#Fsunation y'all ready I'm ready too be sure to take this experience in cause this will be our last non #BCS bowl game in the next 4 years
"
Surely, this message was music to the ears of Seminole fans everywhere.
Eddie Goldman
7 of 9Team: Black
Number: 58
Position: DT
Hometown (High School): Washington, D.C. (Collegiate Academy)
College Choices: FSU, Alabama, Auburn, Miami, etc.
Goldman is the top defensive tackle in the nation according to Rivals and 247 Sports, and he is a huge priority for Fisher and his staff
While the Seminoles will likely battle Alabama until signing day for his services, fans of the Garnet and Gold are hoping he plays his last high school game in the same state as his first college game.
Andrus Peat
8 of 9Team: Black
Number: 75
Position: OT
Hometown (High School): Tempe, Ariz. (Corona Del Sol)
College Choice: Considering FSU, Nebraska, USC, Stanford, Texas, etc.
Given FSU struggles on the offensive line this season, it makes sense that one of the nation’s elite tackles would be considering the Seminoles.
Peat has the ‘Noles in his final group, which includes Nebraska (where his brother Todd plays) and USC among others.
Nelson Agholor
9 of 9Team: Black
Number: 3
Position: WR
Hometown (High School): Tampa, Fla. (Berkeley Prep)
College Choice: Considering FSU, Florida, USC, Texas, Notre Dame, etc.
One of the top playmakers in the country, Agholor is widely regarded as the top receiver prospect in the state of Florida.
While he was believed to be a Florida lean, the departure of Charlie Weis may open up his recruitment for several teams, including the ‘Noles.
