Terence Crawford vs. David Avanesyan: Fight Odds, Live Stream, Predictions

Alex BallentineDec 10, 2022

Terence "Bud" Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) will put his undefeated record on the line against David Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs) in front of a hometown crowd at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Crawford has been a steady presence in the pound-for-pound rankings but has been out of the spotlight for a while. It's been nearly 13 months since the three-division champion beat Shawn Porter by 10th-round TKO in Las Vegas.

Now, he'll look to shake off some rust against an underdog challenger in the form of Avanesyan. The 34-year-old already notched a first-round TKO win over Oskari Metz in March and will look to parlay that momentum into the biggest win of his career.

This is far from the biggest fight of Crawford's career. He is still in search of signature wins to add to his resume, but this one won't be among them. However, it is a good opportunity for him to get back in the ring and shake off some rust after more than a year away.

Preview and Prediction

Crawford is the main draw here. His combination of power, skill and intelligence have carried him to an undefeated record through 38 professional fights. The lone qualm someone can have with his resume is that he has few fights against fellow elite fighters in the prime of their careers.

It's not a fault he's going to be able to address on Saturday night.

Evanesyan is not an elite fighter. His run as the European welterweight champion is the crown jewel of his resume, and that hasn't involved fighting anyone close to the caliber of Crawford.

Despite the wide odds and his track record of taking care of business on fight night, Crawford isn't looking past his opponent.

"David Avanesyan is a good fighter. He's on a good winning streak and beat a guy in the U.K. in Josh Kelly who people thought was going to be a star. I have to train like I am facing King Kong on December 10th, because Avanesyan has everything to gain and nothing to lose," he said, per Scott Christ of Bad Left Hook.

The winning streak that Crawford is referring to stretches six fights and includes three first-round knockouts. The Russian has legitimate punching power and has overwhelmed several of the challengers to his European title.

Avanesyan credits his recent success to his evolution as a fighter and intends to apply his development toward an upset of Crawford.

"The bad habits that plagued me early in my career, are now fixed," he told British Boxing News. "Today I'm a completely different fighter in the ring, and my last six fights have shown my growth when it comes to my power punching. I believe my aggressive style is going to give Crawford problems."

That is the crux of this fight. The early rounds are going to be worth watching, and it's a game of whether Avanesyan can find a way to connect with power punches early.

Crawford is not the fastest starter. He usually takes the first few rounds to get a beat on his opponent and figure out the best response. His knockouts tend to occur later in the fight.

However, Avanesyan has been taking out opponents early, so it's a dangerous game to play.

Ultimately, it's nothing Crawford hasn't seen before, so the southpaw should be able to navigate any choppy waters early before securing the stoppage later in the fight.

Prediction: Crawford via ninth-round TKO
