Lions vs. Packers: Halftime Stats for the Packers

Matthews Out. Rodgers Out. But the Packers have already locked up the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The road to Indy comes through Green Bay in the NFC. While this game doesn't mean much to the Packers, the Lions need to win to get the No. 5 seed over the Falcons. I'm sure they don't want to lose to a backup quarterback, no matter how high he's been touted. 

As we gear up for cheeseheads in the playoffs, let's take a look at some key halftime stats for the Pack. 

It’s not a definite figure or anything, but one thing is for sure: Matt Flynn is going to get paid in the offseason. He’s not going to be the next Aaron Rodgers but he’s done an excellent job of learning behind one of the NFL’s best and he’s made the most of his opportunities. It only takes one coach to fall in love with a quarterback but he’s the real deal. I could see him winding up with a Kevin Kolb/Matt Cassel type of contract, but with better results.

What a season for Jordy Nelson, the new King of the ‘Lambeau Leap.’ 10 of his touchdowns have come at home this year, including two today, which makes for a lot of leapin’. Is there any question that this guy loves playing at home? With Jennings nursing a knee injury, Nelson has stepped up even further, though that’s nothing new this season. He’s been the go-to guy in this offense for most of the year.

The Packers aren’t a run-team. You may have heard. But what they do well is ride a hot running back right into the playoffs. In the last three games, Ryan Grant is averaging 5.5, 5. 5 and 8.5 yards per carry, while getting 10 carries per game. Today he’s averaging … per carry. He’s right on pace to make a big impact in the postseason.  And it wasn’t a run, but Grant showed great burst on an 80-yard touchdown catch-and-run off a screen pass from Flynn.
