2012 NHL Winter Classic Jerseys: This Year's Version Trumps Any Year Prior

Justin WeltonJan 1, 2012

I guess it depends on preference, but I really like the 2012 Winter Classic Jerseys of both the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers.

The combination of the two trumps the other combinations that were used in the previous Winter Classics.

If the Pittsburgh Penguins used their first Winter Classic jersey with the Washington Capitals' jersey last year, then that would easily be my favorite because I thought that jersey was the best jersey ever used.

But last year’s version didn’t cut it for me.

I like the color combinations with the orange of the Flyers vs. the off-color white of the Rangers. It fits pretty well in my estimation.

New York’s jersey looks clean and fresh. The orange of the Flyers jersey will look pretty cool outdoors with the bright lights and scuffed-up ice.

They mesh very well to the eye.

Winter Classic jerseys look different for the most part because we aren’t used to seeing it on our televisions or at the arena. There are several instances of teams changing jersey combinations and colors that looked odd at first.

The Penguins and Denver Broncos come to my mind. Change is generally weird at first, but it grows on you. Those two jerseys grew on me after seeing them on more than one instance.

People love jerseys, probably too much even. It makes what you are watching that much more appealing.

This game has turned into a spectacle for the sport. It finally garners attention from mainstream media, and it will continue because the jerseys are appealing to the casual audience.

The 2012 editions will be the best of the bunch. They show delicacy, creativity and will mesh well together when the teams are on the ice.
