Rangers Must Aim Higher Than David Healy
Another January transfer, and yet another second-rate striker being linked to Ibrox.
David Healy can’t finish like Kris Boyd, can’t run like Kenny Miller and is half the player of Jean-Claude Darcheville. So someone tell us all, why we would want him as part of the team at Murray Park?
He may not be Rangers class, but credit where credit is due, his international record for Northern Ireland is fantastic. A goal every two games (35 in 69) is some record.

International football isn’t the Scottish Premier League though and his record in the Barclay’s Premier League and football league is average at best. He hasn’t scored a league goal for Sunderland and only scored four in 30 for Fulham in the top flight.
29 goals in 111 games in the football league for Leeds United again shows no hint of Rangers class.
But at least he is a Rangers fan and will play for the jersey, right?
Well so is Kyle Lafferty, and he hasn’t exactly set the world alight since his summer move from Burnley.
I supported the move for Kenny Miller, but I’d be very disappointed to see David in a Rangers shirt, as it would signal yet another step back for Rangers, another step towards mediocrity.
So what of the other option mentioned in today’s newspapers, Hermann Hriedarsson?
Well, Davie Weir obviously needs someone more his age around the dressing room if Christian Dailly is on his bike.
I have always rated the big Icelander, but he is now 35 and isn’t getting a look in at Portsmouth under Tony Adams. Would he do a better job than Sasa Papac at left back? I doubt it. Papac has improved tremendously over the last year.
Would he be an ideal replacement for Madjid Bougherra? Only if we were shooting an episode of Dad’s Army.
So there you have it, old and mediocre.
It’s starting to become a habit and something Rangers are getting a reputation for.
