Booking Kenny Omega's Return to AEW Dynamite
After his triumphant return from multiple injuries, former AEW world champion Kenny Omega won the inaugural Trios Championship tournament with The Young Bucks before being suspended for his role in a backstage altercation with CM Punk.
Now, All Elite Wrestling fans are left wondering when the 38-year-old will make his triumphant return to television.
Starting in the coming weeks, mysterious vignettes should begin airing that tease the return of a powerful force in wrestling. With a darker theme and intense visuals, fans would start speculating wildly, just as they did before Bray Wyatt’s return to WWE.
As fans wonder whether it’s Malakai Black or some form of renaissance for Dark Order, the videos playing weekly on Dynamite and Rampage will add even more intrigue as the Full Gear pay-per-view approaches on November 19.
With rumors swirling, PAC and the Lucha Bros will defend their trios titles against a team such as Adam Page and The Dark Order, or Best Friends and Orange Cassidy.
On the go-home episode of Dynamite before the November PPV, the building should go dark as a quick recap of the vignettes that aired for weeks plays. When the video ends, The Elite’s theme song should play as Omega and The Young Bucks make their way to the stage.
Instead of returning as the fun-loving performers who originally won the titles, they should return with a newfound attitude, citing their suspension and how they’ve been mistreated despite being the company's lifeblood.
Khan and AEW must play into the drama caused by Punk’s post-PPV scrum by taking a stand against The Elite and siding with The Best in the World. By positioning Punk and Khan as master manipulators, the company would have the heel authority figure who Omega and the Bucks could fight.
By using their executive vice president status, The Elite should add themselves to the trios title match at Full Gear and win the championships. Khan should veto the outcome in the following days, only for Punk to undermine him again by challenging The Elite himself with the help of FTR.
By creating a power struggle steeped in reality based on the backstage altercation that got everyone involved suspended, fans will have a storyline to get behind that would encompass the entirety of the roster.
Just as the battle between WCW and New World Order saturated every storyline on Nitro and Thunder, AEW needs full-on faction warfare that blurs the lines between reality and professional wrestling, with multiple titles and main events along the way.
No one can help get Dynamite and Rampage back on track right now more than Omega and The Young Bucks.
