Updated WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Predictions Including Bianca Belair vs. Bayley
WWE Extreme Rules has a chance to be one of the better nights of the year for the company. With a new creative vision fully in place, this is an opportunity to keep building forward.
The big contests are set, with the possibility of just a few more matches left. Title bouts and grudge matches will highlight the card on October 8.
Bayley will get her long-awaited shot at Bianca Belair and the Raw Women's Championship in a ladder match. Ronda Rousey will again challenge Liv Morgan, who will defend her SmackDown Women's Championship in an Extreme Rules match.
Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle will compete inside the Fight Pit, while Drew McIntyre finally gets his hands on Karrion Kross in a Strap match. Edge will fight Finn Bálor in an "I Quit" bout.
Extreme Rules is still building its card, but there are clear directions for this show. The following are updated predictions for the show as things stand.
'I Quit' Match: Edge vs. Finn Bálor
The battle between Edge and The Judgment Day has raged for months. It all began when Finn Bálor turned the stable against The Rated-R Superstar in June.
Finally, these two men will wrestle for the first time. This will be an "I Quit" match, which typically benefits the fan favorite in the rivalry.
However, The Judgment Day need this moment more than anything. If Bálor loses, especially quitting against the former leader of the stable, it could devalue the group completely.
It may take some cheap tactics, which the heel stable have never been afraid to employ, but The Prince needs to find a weakness that will force Edge to quit.
Prediction: Bálor wins.
Strap Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross
WWE has built to Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross since the return of The Herald of Doomsday on August 5.
The company has been conservative with the former NXT champion's appearances to save his best for this match.
McIntyre may be one of WWE's top stars, but he will find himself as less of a priority at Extreme Rules in comparison to his opponent.
When The Herald of Doomsday dominated NXT, he was unstoppable. But he lost on his main roster debut, which was out of Triple H's hands. Now, though, the head of WWE Creative will want to revitalize Kross and sell him as a big deal who could even challenge Roman Reigns.
This will be the moment that makes or breaks Kross. He can rise to the occasion and put on a brutal Strap match with one of WWE's best or he may just look out of place with a top act.
Prediction: Kross by pinfall.
Fight Pit: Seth Rollins vs. Matt Riddle
Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle's rivalry will be settled at Extreme Rules inside the brutal Fight Pit.
While this may be the first time the stipulation has appeared on a WWE PPV, it will not be Riddle's debut inside the structure. He lost the inaugural Fight Pit match to Timothy Thatcher in May 2020 in NXT.
It was a brutal contest that could have gone either way, but it did seal this as the perfect structure for The Original Bro, leaning into his mixed martial arts background.
With Thatcher unlikely to return to WWE, Riddle will likely carry this match type forward into WWE, which means he should win its main roster debut.
Rollins has lost many high-profile matches and still been treated like a top star. While he could use some wins, this will be about the performance rather than the result.
Prediction: Riddle by knockout.
SmackDown Women's Championship Extreme Rules: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Ronda Rousey
Liv Morgan will face the biggest test of her SmackDown Women's Championship reign to date when she battles Ronda Rousey in an Extreme Rules match.
As the likely main event of the PPV, this could be highlight or low point of the 28-year-old's career.
Rousey is in the best place of her career since returning in January. She is confident and over massively with the crowd, and it would not be surprising for her to dethrone the champion who took her title.
However, little would be gained from the former UFC star regaining the belt from Morgan. It just makes more sense for this to be the moment when the champion proves herself.
On Friday's SmackDown, Morgan looked like a woman possessed, working at another level against Lacey Evans. She can bring that fight to The Baddest Woman on the Planet and pull off one last upset against her most dangerous opponent.
Prediction: Morgan by pinfall.
Raw Women's Championship Ladder Match: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley
Bianca Belair vs. Bayley is a longstanding feud that began in 2021. The two were supposed to fight in an "I Quit" match at Money in the Bank last year before the latter tore her ACL.
A year later, the two will revisit the rivalry in a ladder match at Extreme Rules, which either of them could win. Bayley has looked dangerous as the leader of Damage CTRL, but she doesn't seem poised to dethrone The EST of WWE just yet.
A ladder match will protect Belair if Bayley does defeat her, but that would require a full commitment to Damage CTRL that WWE may not be ready for. The EST is a safer performer to keep at the top, with so many challengers ready to face her.
Bayley can talk her way past a loss and continue to torment both women's divisions with Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai at her side.
Prediction: Belair wins by retrieving the championship.
