BIG3 League Championship 2022: Predictions for Isaiah Briscoe and Top Stars

Jake RillAug 19, 2022

No team has been more dominant in the BIG3's short history than Trilogy. And they'll soon have an opportunity to earn yet another championship.

The 2022 campaign has been the fifth since the BIG3 launched in 2017. Over the first four seasons, only one team won numerous championships: Trilogy (2017 and 2021). They've made it back to the title game again this year, as they'll face Power on Sunday afternoon at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Quite a few former NBA players take part in the BIG3, a 3-on-3 league in which games are contested on a half-court with a winner being crowned when one team reaches 50 points (as long as they're up by two). Once either Trilogy or Power hit that mark on Sunday, a championship will be awarded.

Although Trilogy has been a bit more successful, Power is familiar with this territory. They won the league championship in 2018.

Preview, Predictions

Both coaches in this year's BIG3 championship game have won a title before. Nancy Lieberman led Power to victory in 2018, while Jackson guided Trilogy to the title last year.

However, the rosters for these teams have changed over the last handful of years. And some of the top players in this matchup haven't been on this stage before.

That isn't the case for Isaiah Briscoe, though. He won the BIG3's Fourth Man of the Year award in 2021, helping lead Trilogy to the championship. But he's taken his game to another level in 2022.

After averaging 12.8 points per game last year, Briscoe is averaging 19.1 points per game this season, which ranks second in the BIG3 behind only 3 Headed Monsters' Kevin Murphy. Briscoe is also collecting 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest while shooting 44.6 percent from the field.

While Briscoe ranks second in the league in scoring, Power's Glen Rice ranks third in his rookie season. His BIG3 career has gotten off to an impressive start, as he's averaging 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 50.4 percent from the field.

Neither of these top BIG3 scorers had much of an NBA career. Briscoe played 39 games for the Orlando Magic during the 2018-19 campaign, while Rice played 16 games over two seasons with the Washington Wizards from 2013-15. But they're both thriving in the BIG3's 3-on-3 format, even while taking on some players who fared better in their professional careers.

Briscoe and Rice have played well throughout the season, and that's unlikely to stop now. In fact, they may step up their play even more with a championship on the line.

Don't be surprised if Briscoe and Rice each drop at least 20 points for their respective teams. It'll be exciting to see them on the same court, as Trilogy and Power haven't faced each other this year.

However, one of these teams is going to need another player to step up and be a difference-maker in the title game. That could end up being Trilogy's Amir Johnson.

Although Johnson hasn't taken a ton of shots this season (50), he's been incredibly efficient, making 33 of those attempts to go 66 percent from the field. He's also been a solid rebounder for Trilogy.

Johnson, who played 14 NBA seasons, will make a late shot or two at crucial points in the BIG3 championship game. Because of those, Trilogy will emerge with the title for the third time in what should be a competitive contest until the end.

Prediction: Trilogy wins third BIG3 championship
