Senior British Open 2022: Dates, Tee Times, TV Info, Prize Money

Padraig Harrington's debut season on the Champions Tour has gone as well as he could have expected.

The 50-year-old Irishman captured the U.S. Senior Open title and placed second in two other events.

Harrington's recent string of results makes him one of the favorites to capture the Senior Open Championship at Gleneagles.

None of the golfers will have a significant course advantage. Gleneagles is hosting the Senior British Open for the first time in history.

Most of the recent champions of the event were European. Stephen Dodd of Wales took home the title last year, Bernhard Langer took first in 2017 and 2019, and he placed second behind Miguel Angel Jimenez in 2018.

Jimenez and Harrington should be in the mix for the win again along with a handful of recognizable players who thrived on links courses in their professional careers.

Harrington should be considered the favorite to win at Gleneagles.

The 50-year-old is playing in the Senior British Open for the first time. He won the British Open twice in 2007 and 2008, but he has not found success in that event recently.

Harrington is one of the youngest players in the Senior Open field, and his early success on the Champions Tour suggests he will be in the mix to win at Gleneagles.

Reigning Senior Open champion Dodd might be a name to watch in Scotland, but he is not in good form. Dodd finished inside the top 20 in one of his last nine Champions Tour events, and he missed the cut at the U.S. Senior Open.

Dodd beat out Jimenez to win the event last season, but the Spainard is in better shape to win at Gleneagles.

He has been one of the best golfers in the Senior British Open over the last five years, winning at St. Andrews in 2018 and taking second at Sunningdale last year.

Jimenez's main foe over the last few years has been Bernhard Langer, who won the Senior British Open on four occasions.

Langer recently had his made-cut streak at senior majors end at 63 on the Champions Tour. But elsewhere, he took third at the Senior PGA Championship and has four top-10 finishes in his last seven senior major starts.

Colin Montgomerie is the other legend who should be considered for the win among the Champions Tour's most notable names.

Montgomerie is playing in his home country of Scotland and should have the edge in local knowledge at Gleneagles compared to the rest of the field.
