Peter Forsberg Rumors: The Great Debate

Steve McSweenFeb 18, 2008

If the reports are true, and they almost never are, then former NHLer Peter Forsberg will most likely not return for the remainder of the 2007-08 season.

Should we be surprised?

Maybe not, considering his injury filled career, but there is a part of me that hopes he will decide to make a return and help a club make a run to Lord Stanley's Cup.

If he does make a return it will not be with Chicago, after rejecting a $6 million a year over three season deal, which was almost the exact amount he turned down from Philadelphia claiming he wasn't worth that much.

Wow, has he looked around the league? Isn't that roughly what the Rangers are paying Chris Drury for his 19 goals?

It is quite clear that if Peter the Great doesn't return it is because he still doesn't feel 100 percent, and he doesn't think he could help a contender.

Let’s get real here though.

Forsberg at half capacity is still an impact player, and wouldn't he look better centering let’s say the Vancouver Canucks second line as opposed to Ryan Kesler? Or maybe on the Minnesota Wild rather than Eric Belanger?

The fact is because it is nearing the end of the season there are quite a few teams that could make room under the cap, and seeing as how Forsberg is concerned about his worth he could be available at a very reasonable price.

No, he did not push the Nashville Predators over the top last season, but with the right mix anything is possible—I mean come on now, imagine him being picked up by the Red Wings or the Ottawa Senators, I am pretty sure the parade route would begin being planned out on his arrival.

The fact is Forsberg could make a team better the same way Sammy Hagar did to Van Halen, or he could make them at the very least just solid, like they were with David Lee Roth.

In an NHL where Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne can return in time for the race for playoffs, why can't we also get Forsberg too?

Isn't that fair, that another team can get a shot in the ass other than the Ducks?

I mean right now, why can't this be love Forsberg? Maybe you could end up making a run with the New Jersey Devils?

Just consider this fan...hot for Peter!
