A Few Observations for January 2nd's Bowl Action

Today was an upset alert day, and it lived up to the hype.

Whether or not you've been reading them, I was doing a bowler inspired bowl game preview for all 34 bowl games.  Unfortunately the real world caught up with me this week and I've been unable to do the segments.  

Here's a skeleton for what I had written for my next segment which would have covered today up until the national championship:

Cotton Bowl– Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech

Reasons to Watch

Upset Alert!

I don't know how popular this pick is with ESPN, but I'm calling it now (the only prediction in this entire segment).  Ole Miss will beat Texas Tech.  There, I stuck my neck out on a game, you have to watch it now.

Reasons to Skip

Bowler's Pick:

I hadn't written anything about the Sugar Bowl or the ECU-UK game yet, but I had been talking all week with my family about how tough Utah is and how good of a game that should be.

Ole Miss is scary.  

I used to think they beat Florida due to Florida's misfortune.  They may have just beaten the Gators though.  Today Ole Miss was faster, hungrier, and worked harder, and they deserved the win.

Texas Tech is one dimensional

I don't know if I've written this here, but I say it all the time—Tech is a mediocre team due to their single mindedness.  They are the Arizona Cardinals of FBS football.

Utah manhandled Alabama.  

This wasn't the Utes tricking a bigger team and lucking out into a tremendously risky victory at the end like Boise St. pulled against Oklahoma a few years ago.  

Utah beat down Alabama like a national champion beats down a lesser team.  Utes, you deserve to be in Miami on January 8th.
