4-Star QB Eli Holstein Commits to Alabama; Was Previously Pledged to Texas A&M

Rob GoldbergMay 24, 2022

Quarterback prospect Eli Holstein announced his commitment to Alabama on Tuesday:

The former Texas A&M commit reopened his recruitment in March, becoming one of the more highly sought-after recruits in the country.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, Holstein is a 4-star prospect considered the eighth-best quarterback in the 2023 class and No. 54 overall.

At 6'4", 222 pounds, Holstein has great size for the position and has already found plenty of on-field success while leading Zachary to a Louisiana state title as a junior. He finished 2021 with 30 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns with just six interceptions on the year.

He will hope to continue this level of success with the Crimson Tide, a program with six national championships in the last 13 years. The team has reached the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in six of the last seven seasons.

Quarterback play has been a key part of Alabama's recent success, with Mac Jones, Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts all starring at the school before becoming NFL starters. Bryce Young won the Heisman Trophy as a freshman in 2021 and will be a top contender to win the award again in 2022.

Holstein will try to be next in line, although there could be competition for playing time, with Alabama signing 5-star prospect Ty Simpson in the 2022 class.

The Crimson Tide now has four commits in the 2023 class, led by elite cornerback prospect Jahlil Hurley.
