Yannick Ngakoue Traded to Colts from Raiders After Reported Chandler Jones Deal

Tim DanielsMar 16, 2022

The Las Vegas Raiders traded defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for cornerback Rock Ya-Sin on Wednesday.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network first reported the deal.

The deal comes after Vegas reached a contract agreement with prized free-agent edge-rusher Chandler Jones, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Ngakoue is coming off a strong pass-rushing season. He led the Raiders with 10 sacks and recorded 23 quarterback hits. He added just 28 total tackles, three passes defended and two forced fumbles en route to a poor 47.2 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, though.

The $5 million in 2022 cap savings allowed Las Vegas to make the move for Jones while still retaining some financial flexibility for the remainder of the offseason.

Jones, 32, has tallied 107.5 sacks in 139 career games for the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals. He earned a 70.4 PFF grade in 2021.

Ngakoue, 26, should provide a nice boost to a Colts pass rush that finished 25th last season with just 33 sacks. He's best utilized as a situational edge-rusher rather than a three-down player, though.

Meanwhile, Ya-Sin will provide secondary depth for the Raiders.

The 25-year-old Temple product started 13 games for Indianapolis as a rookie after being selected in the second round of the 2019 draft. His playing time dipped over the past two seasons, however, as he bounced between the starting lineup and a reserve role.

He recorded 31 total tackles, eight passes defended and no interceptions across 13 appearances in 2021.

The Raiders and Colts are scheduled to face off in Vegas next season, though exact dates haven't been announced.
