Windsor, Hockey World Mourns Loss Of Team Captain

Tragedy struck the tight knit community of Windsor, the Ontario Hockey League, and the world of hockey in general today when 19 year old team captain Mickey Renaud collapsed at his home in Techumseh around noon today.  He was rushed to the hospital where he had no vital signs.  Efforts were made to revive him in the emergency room were unsuccessful.

Mickey Renaud was pronounced dead shortly after noon today.

This truly is one of the most shocking things to happen in a long time to the OHL, and hockey world in general.

As a Knights fan I had the privilege to see him play a few times, and he was a hard working, two was player, who was a perfect choice for team captain.

This is a day where rivalries, standings, playoff races, they all go away.  They all fade.  We realize it's only a game when something like this happens.  A young man who was taken from his family, friends, and loved ones far too soon.

Renaud was a draft pick of the Calgary Flames.

These are just a few of the many articles covering this tragic story.  I'm sure more tributes will be coming out in the next few days.  Windsor is slated to take on Plymouth Thursday night in Windsor.  No word yet on whether that game will go ahead as planned.

I'm not too sure how big of a fanbase the OHL or junior hockey has here on the site, but I felt compelled to post this.  This truly is a sad day for the city of Windsor, the OHL and the world of hockey in general.

My thoughts and prayers are with Mickey's entire family, all his friends and his many loved ones.
