Ravens' Lamar Jackson Diagnosed with Sprained Ankle After Suffering injury vs. Browns

Timothy RappDec 12, 2021

Lamar Jackson was diagnosed with a sprained ankle after suffering an injury in the Baltimore Ravens' loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told reporters of the diagnosis, adding the team will "look at it more" Monday.

Jackson suffered the injury in the first half and  headed to the locker room on a cart before being ruled out.

Any injury to Jackson is an enormous concern for the Ravens. The team came into Sunday at 8-4 and third in the AFC, fighting for both the top seed in the conference and a division title.

The Ravens are built around his skills as both a passer and a runner. He came into the matchup against the Browns with 2,865 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, completing 64.0 percent of his passes. He's been sacked 37 times.

He's also rushed for a team-leading 762 yards and two scores, yet again on pace to eclipse 1,000 yards on the ground if he stays healthy. He has lost three fumbles, however.

Both the turnovers and sacks taken have been a concern, with his previous career highs in interceptions (nine) and sacks taken (29) well below what he's posted through 11 starts this year.

In Jackson's lone missed game this season, Tyler Huntley led the Ravens to a 16-13 win over the Chicago Bears. He threw for 219 yards and an interception, though Baltimore managed just 299 yards in the victory.

The second-year signal-caller's appearance Sunday didn't get off to the hottest start, however:

Huntley will serve as the starter if Jackson is unable to go, but the Ravens are obviously much less of an offensive threat without the 2019 MVP, who is one of the most dynamic playmakers in football.
