Eagles' Miles Sanders Out vs. WFT After Being Diagnosed with Broken Hand Injury

Erin WalshDec 26, 2021

Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders was diagnosed with a broken hand and will not play this week against the Washington Football Team.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed the diagnosis to reporters, saying Sanders will be reevaluated going forward.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported the severity of the injury, which the running back suffered in Sunday's win over the New York Giants.

Sanders also missed three games earlier this season with an ankle injury he suffered in a Week 7 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. He returned for a Week 11 win over the New Orleans Saints.

The Eagles rank first overall in rushing yards per game (163.2), and Sanders has 137 carries for 754 yards this season.

Sirianni has faced some criticism this year for going long stretches without getting Sanders touches, though the 24-year-old has been more productive recently.

The trio of Jordan Howard, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott has done a solid job of filling in for Sanders throughout the year. Expect that trio, led by Howard, to handle the backfield duties while Sanders is out.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts also remains a major threat on the ground for the 8-7 Eagles, who are fighting for a playoff berth after missing the postseason last year.
