Patrick Mahomes Told Clyde Edwards-Helaire 'Don’t Let 1 Play Define You' After Fumble

Patrick Mahomes offered words of encouragement to Kansas City Chiefs teammate Clyde Edwards-Helaire after his costly fumble in Sunday's 36-35 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Mahomes told reporters it's a long season and that he explained to Edwards-Helaire, "Don’t let one play define you."

Inside the final two minutes, Kansas City was poised to at least get a go-ahead field goal before Edwards-Helaire coughed up the ball on a 2nd-and-3 from Baltimore's 32-yard line. The Ravens got a first down on the next drive, which allowed them to run out the clock.

Like Mahomes, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid remained supportive of the second-year running back and said he's not a player prone to fumbles.

Edwards-Helaire didn't have a single fumble as a rookie. When the 22-year-old was coming of LSU, NFL.com's Lance Zierlein also described his level of ball security as "outstanding" ahead of the 2020 draft.

Reid's assessment was basically right on the money.

As Mahomes referenced, the key for Edwards-Helaire is to move on quickly from Sunday's mistake.

This was only the second game of the regular season. Maybe the loss will wind up hurting Kansas City's position in the AFC standings, but sooner or later, the Chiefs will call upon Edwards-Helaire to deliver in crunch time.
