Cam Newton Rumors: Patriots QB Described as 'All Good' After Injury

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is reportedly "all good" after suffering a hand injury Friday at practice.

Mike Reiss of ESPN spoke to a source who said Newton's injury is not serious. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network described the injury as a "slight bone bruise."

The Patriots are carrying four quarterbacks on their roster, with Newton joined by Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer and rookie Mac Jones. Given the improbability that New England will roster four signal-callers into the regular season, Stidham and Hoyer are likely competing for the same roster spot.

Jones was selected in the first round to serve as the long-term franchise quarterback, but Newton is currently the unquestioned starter. Reiss' report noted that Jones struggled with accuracy during the minicamp session and was outshined by Stidham, who underperformed in limited action last season.

Newton threw for 2,657 yards and eight touchdowns against 10 interceptions in 2020, failing to live up to the unenviable task of replacing Tom Brady. The Patriots surrounded him with one of the worst supporting casts of skill-position players in football, and Newton struggled to elevate those around him. He did, however, bring dynamism to the ground game by rushing for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns.

New England spent heavily this offseason to complement Newton with better talent, adding tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry along with wide receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne.
