Jan Blachowicz vs. Glover Teixeira for UFC Light Heavyweight Title Set for UFC 266

Tyler ConwayApr 14, 2021

Jan Blachowicz is set to defend the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Glover Teixeira at UFC 266.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the main event for September's pay-per-view in an interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN.

Blachowicz won the vacant light heavyweight championship over Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 in September and defended the title last month at UFC 259 against Israel Adesanya. The latter victory was the biggest of Blachowicz's career and marked the first time Adesanya tasted defeat in mixed martial arts.

Teixeira has moved into the No. 1 contender spot with a run of five straight victories, most recently a third-round submission of Thiago Santos in November. The 41-year-old's only previous title opportunity came in a unanimous decision loss to Jon Jones in 2014.

"I think [Teixeira] deserves it," Blachowicz said after his win over Adesanya. "He'll have to wait a little bit so I can rest and be with my family. But he will wait. He will be next."

Blachowicz-Teixeira is the first official fight on the UFC 266 card.
