Johnathan's Bio
I'm a 24-year-old graduate of Cal State University, Fullerton. I graduated with my B.A. in Communications and am dying to get into the journalism industry. Writing is an art form to me, and making a career by lending my voice to either the entertainment or sports industries would be a dream.
I'm a SoCal boy and baseball is my game. I've been an Angels fan for as long as I can remember, but I also follow the rest of the major sports as well. I've even come to appreciate the purity of college football, though the popularity of other college sports remains a mystery.
I could not imagine a better place for an aspiring journalist to be than here at B/R. They say if you do what you love, it'll never feel like work to you, and that is exactly how I feel here. I could not ask for more out of a profession than to be told to indulge in my passions.
I hope you enjoy what I have to offer.

All Time Sports Moment
Scott Spiezio's three-run home run in the seventh inning of Game 6 in the 2002 World Series is by far the greatest sports moment I have ever witnessed. The Angels were trailing three games to two in the series and were down 5-0 in the game, all but sealing a World Series title for the San Francisco Giants. But Spiezio's shot down the right field line sparked an incredible comeback by the Angels, who won Games 6 and 7, bringing their first World Series trophy home to Anaheim.
-
Most Memorable Game Attended
Every game I'm able to attend is memorable in its own way, but perhaps the most interesting was a 21-6 pounding that the Angels delivered to the Kansas City Royals. The Angels scored 21 runs on 23 hits, with catcher Jose Molina belting a grand slam to left and outfielder Jeff DaVanon hitting for the cycle. Somehow, that night comes up in conversation every season.
-
Most Unbreakable Sports Record
Nolan Ryan's career strikeout record of 5,714 will never be touched. The man was a power strikeout pitcher for 25 consecutive years - no one has ever, or will ever, repeat that career. The next man on the list, Randy Johnson, is almost 1,000 strikouts behind Ryan at 4,789. Ryan was a god.
-
Ruth or Mays?
Ruth. Most people forget that on top of being a tremendous hitter for power and average, the Babe started as a great pitcher with a devastating curveball.
-
Unitas or Montana?
Montana. There's no one I'd rather have with the ball in his hand. When the game, the season, or the Super Bowl was on the line, Joe delivered.
-
Jordan or Russell?
It's hard to pick against a legend like Bill Russell, but Michael Jordan in his prime may have been the greatest athelete who ever lived. Jordan dominated his sport, winning six NBA Championships in eight years, and only because he took two years off to play baseball.
-
Gretzky or Orr?
Wayne Gretzky, hands down. Gretzky held literally every offensive record, single season or career, you could possibly think of. There's a reason he's called "The Great One."
-
Pele or Maradona?
It's soccer....who cares?
-
Federer or Sampras?
Tough pick. At one point, Rog looked like he would surpass Pete without a second thought. But Federer is starting to drift toward the back end of his career and while he stands just one grand slam away from tying Sampras, two from passing him, he may not get it. Between these two, I suppose I'd have to go with the number of titles and pick Sampras. But the real question is who can stand up to Rafael Nadal?
-
Tiger or Nicklaus?
Tiger. Jack was great and still holds the record for most career majors, but Tiger is well on his way to overshadowing that record. He's already over 30, but shows no sign of slowing down.
-
Petty or Earnhardt?
It's NASCAR.....again, who cares?
-
Schumacher or Senna?
F1 racing is not my forte.
-
Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?
I'm a California kid, so I guess I have to go with the Pac 10. USC is a power year in, year out. Plus, I'm sick of the East Coast bias and listening to how bloody great the SEC is.

Former MLB player Eric Karros called my article into question on Colin Cowherd's ESPN Radio show yesterday.
He challenged me for a re-do: but here's my response.
I assure you, it's not just a ridiculous personal attack, but it shows that Karros was off-base with his statements.

Sorry about any confusion in the edits, Johnathan. Most writers only use "Gold Glove" in describing the honor.
I added the hyphen because "MVP" modifies quality. What type of quality—MVP-quality.
Thanks for the feedback and hopefully the Angels' stars get more recognition in the future.

With each big name that is leaked to steroid use, America's most hated player is slowly becoming its most trusted. The biggest names in baseball are falling subject to steroid use.
