Re: the note you wrote on my bulletin board
Yes, I did, because winning a silver medal is one thing, but becoming Olympic Champions is a totally different story. Silver will never feel as good as gold ;)

Thomas,
Do not take offense at my posts on your article. Please next time call a spade a spade. To suggest that Nadal has been racially discriminated against is an irresponsible piece of journalism. Just say that he is discriminated against based on his ethnicity.
This argument that Rafa should get more or equal respect vis a vis Federer has a childish "My dad's better than yours" tone to it. I mean what are you looking for? A Spanish Inquisition ...do you want to kill all the Federerians out there?
I am sorry if you were offended by my comments but the article should be toned down and properly edited with the proper entymology concerning race.
Thank you!
Robert

First, I can see how you'd think that a head-to-head should merit high points, and it did come through in the rankings. That gave Nadal another win over a top 25 player. Now as I said, wins alone do not tell the whole story, so when looking at Murray's 11 to Nadal's 9, there wasn't a huge difference in points. Both had beat 5 top 25 opponents, so that's a tie.
You want to talk about the quality of opponents. Murray in fact, played the more difficult of players on the whole. Murray's QO score was 30.8 (just taking the rankings of everyone he played and dividing by the matches he played) while Nadal's was a little lower at 33.8. You can do the math for yourself there if you want.
Here are some other basics. Murray's game differential was +61, Nadal's only +52. Murray gained 1600 ATP points, Nadal had 1180. And as I said before, Murray actually faced a little tougher competition in March. I don't see a skew or how that is any way biased against one player. I think that's a fair way to analyze performance.
If we were just looking at Indian Wells, yes you'd be right, Nadal should no doubt have first. But it takes both into account. And Nadal's Miami performance was less than stellar, he would even admit that himself. A quarterfinal loss hurt him a lot, to the point that if he had even got to the semis, he might have kept the top spot.

Tom,
Please let me know how how you think the system is biased, I'm very concerned. You're the only one that seems to think that way. I see your point, looking at just the surface you'd see that Nadal and Murray both won a tournament, and when they played each other Nadal won convincingly. OK. I'll give you that. But you cant be so shallow. Wins don't tell the entire story of how well someone is playing, hence the "power" rankings. So you have to take other things into consideration too, like games won/games lost, quality of opponents and how many ATP points they've achieved. I don't like Murray. But when you consider all of that, there is no way he is not No. 1 in March.

Few words - ie none on the edit!
Just spotted Sergey's question about your pic - I recognised Rog straight away, but I can't believe you actually shook his hand!
The best I could do was take his photo from about 10 metres - my profile pic (though I have stacks more from the same day).
Will get to read your articles soon - takes me while to work through all the material on BR, when I try to spend any spare time writing. But I *will* get back to you.

DeleteThomas, I see you changed the quote but you didn't clarify it....you didn't even acknowledge it. No way this was a technical glitch....I believe you intentionally misrepresented Rafa.
