About

I'm a community newspaper Sports Writer/Photographer/some layout who is looking to write more and have his opinion heard on the national and local sports perspective. Let me know what you think of my work and I'd love to hear how I can improve. As a reporter for a weekly newspaper in the suburbs of Minneapolis, I will naturally have a Minnesota slant to the topics I cover. I'm a big fan of the NHL, especially the Minnesota Wild (and North Stars, not the Dallas Stars), Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, Gophers and several other small college programs and prep teams.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Mohammed Ali, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Justin Morneau, Adrian Peterson, Cal Clutterbuck, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Lindsey Vonn

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Minnesota Twins, Wild, Vikings, Timberwovles, Thunder

  • Favorite Coaches

Flip Saunders, Rod Gardenhire, Joe Tore, Lou Nanne

  • All-Time Sports Moment

If I would've been alive, Miracle on Ice; but either Game 7 1991 World Series or 2004 ALCS when Boston beat up on the hated Yankees!

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

First Mn Wild game I went to; a 6-1 win over Dallas (formerly known as the Northstars). It wasn't one of Dallas goalie Ed Belfour's better games, October 2000

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

56 game hitting streak; Its a record of being in a zone for a long time and anytime someone gets close to 20 games its on the front pages.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays because of his "superhero-like" catches and speed, but Ruth because of the lore makes him more than human.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana. I can remember Montana dominating defenses in the 80s, especially Minnesota in the late 80s. It helped to have outstanding receivers like Rice and Taylor, but to dominate the way they did is remarkable, not to mention his days at Notre Dame and how he handled the spotlight.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Again, Jordan, simply because I saw him do things with my own two eyes. Give it another 40 years and I guarentee that he'll have the same type of lore of a Babe Ruth. Making shots, reaching in for a steal and the swagger he had on the court. Playing for Washington hurt his mystique, but those who saw him in the 90s know why he's called Air Jordan.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky because of what he did so young and how he had the attention of everyone during the 80s and most of the 90s. Going to L.A. helped him personally, giving him more exposure to the public, but the dynasty he developed in Edmonton with Fuhr, Messier, Esa and the rest of the group is unmatched in the NHL.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele doesn't have a drug problem like Maradona did/does. Pele at least made an effort to grow the sport in the US. His ability to control the ball in traffic is unmatched.

  • Federer or Sampras?

What Sampras has done over a career is more impressive than Federer, but Federer has Nadal chomping at the bit to take over as king of the court gives him the edge and a reason to dominate as much as possible.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger. Hands down. Jack set the path for Tiger, but Eldridge has taken the reigns and sprinted with it. Hands down a better golfer simply because he's in better shape, courses are better taken care of and the equipment has evolved so much. From a popularity standpoint, Tiger blasts Jack out of the water. Look at the ratings of golf from after the US Open last year until the WGC Championship Match Play event last month. No question.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Petty for growing the sport to what it was from the '50s to today through Petty Enterprises. There is a reason he's known as the "The King" in racing circles.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Schumacher the jockey - of course. Anyone who doesn't give the guy props for his lengthy career in the sandle is crazy. Schumacher- the driver, nearly as dominant in F1 as Tiger is in golf.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

Big 10, because its the biggest, fastest, strongest...or just because I grew up in Minnesota (perennial cellar dwellers in many sports, excluding hockey).
