About

Just your average sports fan here. I am in sales for a sporting goods retailer that has been in business for over 85 years (my grandfather bought all of his gear from the same place back in the 30's/40's). My territory is pretty much the entire state of WV, and I also have a few schools/universities in OH/VA/KY.

Baseball/Football are my fav's, but I also follow basketball pretty closely. I am not a big NHL fan, and I also follow some golf....tennis....softball....etc.

I have been a huge San Diego Chargers since I watched Dan Fouts back in 1981. Not too many Charger fans in WV, so when it came time to pick a baseball team to follow of course I went with the Padres and Tony Gwynn.

I enjoy reading about all sports, but past sports really catch my interest the most. I would have loved to follow sports back in the 40's through the 60's.

I am a huge Michael Jordan fan and love to win the argument when someone says that ????? was better than Jordan....it's just not true.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

    Dan Fouts....Michael Jordan....Tony Gwynn....LaDainian Tomlinson....Ted Williams....Mickey Mantle....Nolan Ryan....John Wooden

  • Favorite Sports Teams

    San Diego Chargers....San Diego Padres....West Virginia....Marshall

  • Favorite Coaches

    John Wooden....Sid Gilman....Bobby Knight....Woody Hayes

  • All-Time Sports Moment

Anytime watching Jordan when he was in his prime and took over a game.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

This isn't a big time game or anything, but I went to watch the Padres at PNC Park. Gwynn had only been pinch hitting because of injuries, but played the entire game and hit the final home run of his career (he wasn't a power hitter). I thought that was pretty cool.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

I'm sure there is some obscure record that is over 100 years old like "most spitball's thrown in a single inning" that will never be broken. But, I am going to have to go with Ripken's streak. Most players don't play 2,632 games in their entire career anymore, much less all in a row. At 162 games a season that is over 16 years....most quit around 9-12 now (and that's the good ones).

  • Ruth or Mays?

WOW.....that is actually kinda tuff. I will go with Mays, I think he played some stiffer competition.

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Unitas

  • Jordan or Russell?

    JORDAN....there is no other

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Gretzky....but I don't really follow the NHL.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Pele

  • Federer or Sampras?

    Sampras

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

    Nicklaus.......FOR NOW.....

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Petty, although I like Earnhardt's personality better

  • Schumacher or Senna?

    WHO????

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

Big East....I live in West Virginia, but I do realize that from year to year they all vary as to who is the strongest.

Yeah, the Padres are in first place right now. But are they a contender or a pretender? Check out my Division Leader Contenders/Pretenders piece and see what you think.
