Bill's Bio

This is a place for me to actually live out one of my dreams and write about the team that I have loved ever since I first saw Nolan Ryan pitch back in 1974. This is all about Angels baseball, with a little mix of rivalry stuff for flavor.

The Short List What Bill thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Cowboys

  • All Time Sports Moment

When the Angels finally won the World Series, a day I never thought would happen in my lifetime.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Game 5 of the 2002 ALCS. Adam Kennedy hits three bombs and the Angels win their first (and so far only) AL pennant.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak. Pitchers are so afraid of ending up as a trivia question they would rather walk a guy three times and get one out to snap the streak than actually challenge the hitter.

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays. Ruth was a great home run hitter and pitcher in his day, but Mays was an all-around athlete.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana. Unitas was a legend, but Montana was clutch whenever he need to be. See "The Catch" and the end of Super Bowl 23 if you need more proof.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Russell. Changed the way the game was played in the middle because of his defensive prowess.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky. He was 'The Great One' for a reason.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele. Both were artists on the pitch, but Pele made soccer popular in places it never would have been otherwise.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Federer. Calm, cool and collected. If he can get by Nadal on clay, he can win 20 grand slam titles.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger. Nicklaus could win big tourneys, but he never dominated his rivals like Tiger has.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Petty. He will always be 'The King',

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Senna. Would have made Schumacher's dominance moot if not for a tragic crash that cost him his life.

  2. Hey Bill,

I wrote a piece in May highlighting the position players that I thought should make the all star team. I started a 2-part follow up piece today focusing on starting pitchers. I started with AL. If you get the chance, I'd appreciate it if you took a look at it. Thanks

  7. Hey Bill,

People of my generation look at them fondly as the players they watched as little kids, people of other generations may just look at them as great players. I created a slide show highlighting the best players of the 1990's. If you get a chance, take a look, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

  8. Hey Bill,

There was a touching moment in the Mariners game last night, made possible by the best pitcher I've ever gotten to watch - Randy Johnson. Watching history unfold inspired to me take a look at his incredible career and count down his five best moments, in my eyes. If you get a chance, take a look at it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
