About

My name is Lou Cappetta, and I am a 34-year-old sports fan. I have been a lifelong New York sports fan. I love the Knicks (a tough thing to admit these days), and Giants, but my first love always will be baseball.

I live for New York Mets baseball, and I hate (but respect) the New York Yankees. As a kid I was the only Mets fan in a family full of Yankees fans.

I am currently writing a memoir of my childhood related through the various athletes and teams I followed as a child. As of now the working title is "The Sport of Life."

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Amare Stoudemire, Raymond Felton,Carlos Beltran, David Wright, Johan Santana, Mike Piazza, Gary Carter, Nate Robinson, Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Charles Oakley, John Starks, David Lee, Tiki Barber, Eli Manning, Ray Lewis

  • Favorite Sports Teams

NY Mets, NY Giants, NY Knicks, Seton Hall Pirates

  • Favorite Coaches

    Jeff Van Gundy

  • All-Time Sports Moment

1986 World Series Game 6, Super Bowl 42

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Johan Santana's complete game shutout in the next-to-last game at Shea Stadium 2008, NFC Championship game @ Giants Stadium 2001

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays was the best of his generation, but Ruth was the best ever.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Close call, but Unitas really revolutionized the position of QB. Every QB since Unitas owes him for the way the game is played today.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Another tough one. 11 rings to 6 is hard to ignore, however, it's way easier to dominate as a 6'10" center playing close to the basket, especially when there is only one other player in the league close to your physical stature. Jordan did it at the hardest position on the court to dominate. Advantage Jordan.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Hands down Gretzky. He is the only player in any sport who is comparable to Babe Ruth in the way he totally dominated his sport.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele is the only person ever to make soccer matter in America, even if it was short lived...sorry Mr. Beckham.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Sampras by a landslide. Whatever the final number of grand slam victories ends up being for Federer, the fact that he can't beat Nadal will keep him from being remembered as a better player than Sampras.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger is only 4 Majors from Nicklaus's record, and he is still in his early thirties. The possibility that he could compete at an extremely high level for twenty more years makes me wonder not if he will break Jack's record, but by how much.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Petty was so dominant, and was the face of racing even well after his retirement. Earnhardt was the bad boy that nobody wanted to race against. Plus i hate to say this, but sometimes I feel the legend of the fallen Earnhardt grows as the years pass. He has become almost a folk hero. i call this a draw.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

I'm a BIG EAST guy all the way.

It's been a long time since I've written anything, but this one is worth it. I'd love to get some feedback on this:

lou a friend of mine just showed me an article you wrote about the 10 worst fan bases. I just have to say Im glad you didnt have an agenda when you wrote the artice. That was sarcasim if you werent sure. All the teams accept for the Cardinals and the Cubs were rivials of the Mets or some other New York state of mind. You didnt even mention the Cleveland Browns who have one of the most aggreious fan bases in the sports world. The Dodgers werent on the list and when I was out there for Phillies Dodgers playoff games it was all crypts ready to kill the fans. So I dont know if its just your opinion of that or it was just lazy journalism but we deserve a little more respect then that. And this will probably get swept under the rug as me being another Bleep- hole Philly fan, but at least I was able to defend us a little.
