The most pain-stricken fans heading into this season are Texas Rangers fans, LSU Football fans, and New Orleans Saints fans.

I'm a lifelong fan of all three.

Aside from my painful, heartbroken 2011-2012, I spent almost seven years in the sports media realm. But in 2006, after Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans, I opted out of sports media to pursue other options (notably, a not-so-healthy relationship).

The odds of returning to media in some capacity down the road were 50-50 at the time. Now? Probably 60-40 in favor of returning.

But my oh my, how things have changed!
