Scott Writes About

The Short List What Scott thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • Favorite Athletes

The list would be way too long.

  • Favorite Sports Teams

New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, and Boston Red Sox

  • All Time Sports Moment

The game winning kick in Super Bowl XXXVI.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

That's a tough one. I think I'll go with the Patriots blowing out the Bears in Foxborough in 1988 and getting a little revenge for Super Bowl XX. The legendary Bronko Nagurski, who played both running back and defensive line for the Bears in the 1930s, was honored in a pregame ceremony. During the game we watched Mike Ditka as his face appeared to be turning purple while he screamed at Bears QBs. The one bad thing about the game was hearing that Ditka suffered a heart attack after the game. Fortunately, he made a full recovery, and he's around today to champion the cause of the old time players who made the game what it is today.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

I don't think any of them are unbreakable, and I don't put a lot of stock in them. The lengths of seasons change. Rules changes make it easier to break some records and harder to break others. I think Johnny Unitas' 47 game touchdown pass streak might be a tough one to break. Even in today's NFL, that's almost three full regular seasons with at least one TD pass in every game.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    Ruth

  • Unitas or Montana?

That's a tough one. It's dead even. Two of the greatest QBs of all time. You can't compare them on stats because Unitas played before and Montana played after the 1978 rule changes which dramatically altered the game, making passing a lot easier. They were both great in crunch time.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Pele

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

C'mon. The SEC is the toughest conference going right now, especially in football.
